摘要： Ketocarboxylic acids such as levulinic acid can be efficiently purified in high yield by esterification with a hydrocarbon polyol to the corresponding polyketocarboxylic ester, which can be readily purified, for example recrystallized. After purification, the ketocarboxylic ester can be hydrolyzed to provide pure ketocarboxylic acid, or a salt thereof, after removal of the esterifying hydrocarbon polyol, or used for other synthetic transformations. Advantageously, the polyketocarboxylic esters, ketocarboxylic acids, and salts thereof produced by this method are obtained in high purity.

摘要： A process for making HOOC—R—COOH compound acid from a clarified NH4+−OOC—R—COO−NH4+ compound-containing fermentation broth including distilling the broth under super atmospheric pressure at a temperature of >I00° C. to about 250° C. to form an overhead that comprises water and ammonia, and a liquid bottoms that Includes HOOC—R—COOH compound acid, and at least about 20 wt %. water; cooling the. bottoms to a temperature sufficient to cause the bottoms to separate into a liquid portion in contact with a solid portion that is substantially pure HOOC—R—COOH compound acid; separating the solid portion from the liquid portion; and recovering the solid portion.

摘要： A catalyst composition is disclosed which consists essentially of an aluminum fluoride prepared by the reaction of aluminum hydroxide and HF. Also disclosed is a process for preparing 1,1,-dichloro-1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethane by chlorofluorination which comprises the step of contacting a gaseous mixture comprising at least one tetrahaloethylene having the formula C.sub.2 Cl.sub.4-x F.sub.x wherein x is an integer from zero to 3 and both Cl.sub.2 and HF with said catalyst composition at an elevated temperature; and a process for producing 2-chloro-1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and/or 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane by hydrodechlorinating 1,1-dichloro-1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethane prepared by said chlorofluorination.

摘要： This invention provides an improved process for the manufacture of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane by the reaction of HF and trichloroethylene in the presence of a catalyst to form a mixture comprising 2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane and 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and, optionally, other organic by-products. The improvement resides in conducting the reaction in a single reaction zone while recovering the 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane from the mixture and recycling the 2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane and, optionally, other organic by-products from the mixture to the reaction along with trichloroethylene and HF.
