    • In a surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter, on a 36.degree. Y-cut X-propagation lithium tantalate substrate, series branch SAW resonators, which are connected in series between an input terminal and an output terminal, and parallel branch SAW resonators, which are connected between respective pairs of the series branch resonators by wirings and which are grounded, are provided. Two series branch resonators and one parallel branch resonator are connected in a T shape, so as to form a fundamental unit. In the SAW filter, three fundamental units are serially connected. An interdigital transducer (IDT) included in each resonator is made of a metal film containing aluminum as the main component. The thickness of the metal film is in the range of 8% to 10% of the electrode pitch of the IDT of the parallel branch resonator.

    • A modulated light wave demodulator includes an external cavity type laser having a 4-light wave mixing optical phase conjugate element for inverting the spatial phase of an incident light and a light mixing detector. At least part of a modulated light wave, carrying information to be transmitted, is input as a probe light into the optical phase conjugate element and reacts with a laser light wave to produce a phase conjugate light wave, and the phase conjugate light wave and the laser light wave are subjected to a light mixing detection by a light mixing detector to obtain a demodulated light wave. Alternatively, the intensity of the phase conjugate light wave emitted from the optical phase conjugate element is detected and the modulated light wave and the laser light wave are subjected to a light mixing detection by the light mixing detector when the detected intensity of the phase conjugate light wave becomes maximum, so as to thereby obtain a demodulated light wave.

    • This invention provides a surge absorber for absorbing surges of electric current. The absorber has a metal oxide varistor hermetically sealed in a hollow insulator by a top and a lower electrical terminal and also has a conductive rod extending substantially downwardly and electrically connected to ground and to the lower electrical terminal by solder and also thermally connected to the metal oxide varistor whereby when the varistor is heated by a surge of an electric current therethrough to a temperature to heat the solder above the melting point of the solder, said conductive rod gets separated from the lower electrical terminal to fall downwardly, thereby stopping the electric current through the metal oxide varistor to ground. The lower electrical terminal is preferably so constructed that a hole is produced therein upon the separation of the conductive rod from the lower electrical terminal for equalizing the atmospheric pressure in the hollow and the pressure of the outside atmosphere, thereby preventing the absorber from exploding.
