    • A secondary battery capable of obtaining superior cycle characteristics and superior swollenness characteristics is provided. The secondary battery includes a cathode, an anode, and an electrolytic solution. The electrolytic solution is impregnated in a separator provided between the cathode and the anode. An anode active material layer contains a crystalline anode active material having silicon as an element. The anode active material layer has a coating section where the surface of an anode current collector is coated with the anode active material and a non-coating section where the surface of the anode current collector is not coated with the anode active material but is exposed. Thereby, the physical property of the anode active material is hardly deteriorated with age. Further, at the time of charge and discharge, the anode active material layer is hardly expanded and shrunk, and thus the anode current collector is hardly deformed.

    • The invention provides a battery which can improve cycle characteristics by forming a more stable and stronger film on the surface of an anode active material layer. A cathode and an anode are layered with a separator in between. The anode has an anode collector and the anode active material layer. The anode active material layer contains Si, Sn, or an alloy thereof, and formed by vapor-phase method, liquid phase method, or sinter method. It is preferable that the anode active material layer is alloyed with the anode collector on at least a part of interface between the anode active material layer and the anode collector. The separator is impregnated with an electrolyte solution. The electrolyte solution contains cyclic carbonic ester having saturated bonds such as vinylene carbonate and vinylethylene carbonate as a solvent. Consequently, a strong and stable film is formed on the surface of the anode active material layer, and decomposition of the electrolyte solution in the anode is inhibited.

    • Provided is a battery capable of improving cycle characteristics without increasing the thickness of an anode current collector. An anode active material layer including at least one kind selected from the group consisting of Sn and compounds thereof is formed on an anode current collector having a projection on a substrate through a vapor deposition method, a liquid-phase deposition method or a sintering method, and the anode current collector and the anode active material layer are alloyed with each other in at least a portion of an interface therebetween. By a function of the projection, the anode current collector can be prevented from being cracked into small pieces due to expansion and shrinkage of the anode active material layer. Further, a stress on the anode active material layer due to the expansion and the shrinkage can be spread out so that cracks produced in the anode active material layer can be scattered in various directions to reduce the size of the cracks.
