    • An apparatus for reproducing signals from a multiplicity of parallel tracks in a recording medium by means of n number of rotary heads, n being an integer not less than 3. A transportation device for transporting the recording medium is controlled on the basis of two kinds of signal: namely, a tracking control signal for leading one of the n number of rotary heads to one of m number of tracks contained in consecutive n number of tracks, m being an integer not less than 2; and a track shift signal which is generated in accordance with the result of a determination as to whether the n number of rotary heads are tracing expected tracks and which enable the tracks under tracing to be shifted to obtain a predetermined relationship between the sequence of the n number of rotary heads and the sequence of the tracks traced by these rotary heads.

    • A method of improving the radiation resistant characteristic of a BF.sub.3 proportional counter, comprising a tube having electrodes provided thereon and BF.sub.3 gas filled therein, by subjecting the counter before use to any one of 10.sup.4 -2.times.10.sup.5 R gamma ray, 10.sup.4 -2.times.10.sup.5 R X-ray, or 10.sup.10 -10.sup.11 nvt thermal neutron with a direct current high voltage applied between the above stated electrodes. The counter thus adapted exhibits little deterioration even in the surroundings of strong gamma ray, X-ray, and thermal neutron flux, and can maintain a stable operation. In particular, since the upper limit of the radiation amount in the process of improving the radiation resistant characteristic is set at a low value, the remaining life of the BF.sub.3 proportional counter is not shortened unduely.

    • An image frame is segmented into a plurality of groups of blocks characterized by movements approximating each other. An image reader receives a source image frame and a destination image frame in image data including consecutive image frames and segments the frames into blocks. A corresponding point information generator computes matching to detect corresponding point information indicating correspondence between the source image frame and the destination image frame and generates a corresponding point information file which describes coordinates of corresponding points in the image frames. An affine parameter calculating unit calculates affine parameters indicating deformation and movement of a block occurring between the source image frame and the destination image frame, on the basis of the corresponding point information. A seed block growth unit examiners a block adjacent to a seed block serving as a starting point for area growth and repeats a determination as to whether the seed block should be combined with the adjacent block so as to segment an image frame into a group of background blocks characterized by movements approximating each other and the other groups of blocks.

    • A frequency control circuit including a control circuit for setting a set value, an adding circuit for adding the set value per unit time and effecting counting based on the adding result, and a signal output circuit for outputting an alternating signal of a cycle corresponding to the time necessary for the count result by the adding circuit to reach a target value. The control circuit sets the set value as a value which does not correspond to a submultiple of the target value, and the adding circuit starts the counting of a next cycle when the count result reaches the target value. The control circuit further sets an initial value of the counting of the next cycle in accordance with a value of a portion of the adding results, exceeding the target value when the count result reaches the target value.
