    • PURPOSE:To prevent the deformation of the shell of a converter by a temp. change by blowing a cooling gas to a furnace body during the operation of the converter and blowing a gas for heating up during standing by. CONSTITUTION:A header 3 is disposed around the shell 1 of the converter and many pipings 2 having many nozzles 9 are disposed to this header 3. The cooling air is sent by a fan 7 to a duct 6 from an inlet 20 and the cooling air is blown from the nozzles 9 of the pipings 2 to cool the shell while the opening degree of an air quantity control damper 13 is controlled by a damper opening degree adjusting machine 14 when the temp. of the shell 1 rises abnormally during the operation of the converter. The air heated to a high temp. by a heater 8 is sent by the fan 7 and the heating air is blown from the nozzles 9 to the shell 1 during the halt of the converter. The signal from a temp. sensor 10 mounted to the shell 1 is inputted to a computing element 11 which controls the opening degree adjusting machine 14 of the damper 13 until the temp. of the shell attains a correct value. The thermal load to be received by the shell by the significant change in the temp. of the shell of the converter is reduced and the deforming and cracking of the shell are prevented.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the erosion of a refractory lined in a converter by estimating heat load applied on the refractory during operation from a temp. measurement to a furnace outer iron shell and a remaining thickness of the refractory to use the setting of a good operational condition at the next time. SOLUTION: A thermometer 5 is set to an arbitrary position in the iron shell 3 surrounding the outer periphery of the converter 1 and the thickness Li (m) of the refractory 4 in the furnace near the temp. measuring part of the iron shell 3 is measured immediately after tapping molten steel. The local heat load Qi (kcal/m .hr. deg.C) applied to each position during operation is measured based on this thickness Li and the iron shell temp. Ti ( deg.C) with the thermometer 5 and the operational condition in the following time is set so that the local heat load Qi in each position uniformizes. Further, the local heat load Qi is calculated with the equation Qi=K/Li×(Ti2-Ti1). Wherein, Ti2 is the surface temp. of the refractory in the furnace ( deg.C) and K is the thermal conductivity of the refractory (kcal/m.hr. deg.C). By this method, the erosion speed of the lining refractory 4 is made to slow and the erosion in the whole periphery of the furnace is uniformly progressed.

    • PURPOSE:To recover heat from cooling water as steam and to improve the service life of a heat receiving plate in a mold by arranging pressure measuring means in a steam-containing hot drainage returning piping passage, comparing the measured pressure with the setting pressure, operating a steam discharging value and controlling pressure in a boiler drum. CONSTITUTION:On the way of the steam-containing hot drainage returning piping 12d from a continuous casting mold 2 or at the top part of the boiler drum 6, the steam pressure measuring means 15 is arranged at secondary side of the mold 2. The output signal is inputted to a pressure adjusting device 11 and compared with the aimed control pressure value inputted from a proper pressure operating means 16. In the case the difference between both exists, an operating set signal is transmitted to the steam discharging valve 13 attached to the boiler drum 6 and the pressure in the boiler drums 6 is controlled so that the pressure in the boiler drum 6, that is, secondary pressure of the mold 2 comes to the setting aimed pressure. By this method sensible heat and latent heat of the molten metal can be recovered as the steam and the service life of the heat receiving plate 31 in the mold 2 can be lengthened.
