    • A truck bed divider apparatus for use with a bed of a pickup truck or other cargo carrying bed of a motor vehicle. The apparatus includes one or more divider assemblies that may be lowered into an operative position to restrain the movement of smaller cargo items being carried in the bed. The divider assembly may also be moved into a raised position thereby allowing the full volume of the cargo area to be used if needed. A plurality of movable screens are incorporated in the divider assembly that allow very long cargo items to be accommodated even while the divider assembly is in its lowered position. The pivot assemblies can also be moved and positioned as needed along a pair of support rails disposed on opposing sidewalls of the cargo bed to better restrain articles of various shapes and sizes.

    • A vehicle article carrier having a cross bar which makes use of a pair of end supports for securing the cross bar to a pair of side rails. Each of the end supports includes an actuating member which is pivotally mounted to a housing of its associated end support. An inverted V-shaped biasing member is disposed within the housing and its outermost ends are captured within a first recess in the housing and a second recess formed in an internal wall of the actuating member. An over center action is employed to assist in biasing the actuating member into its unlocked and locked positions. The actuating member includes a locking post portion for engaging with one of a plurality of apertures formed along the length of its associated side rail. The end support can be constructed with a reduced number of independent component parts, thereby simplifying its construction and reducing its overall cost.

    • A vehicle article carrier having a pair of bracket members which are disposed on a pair of slats, and where each bracket member includes a rotatable actuating member incorporating a camming mechanism for allowing each bracket member to be quickly and easily placed in locked and unlocked positions relative to its associated slat. Each bracket member includes a camming member which is threadably engaged with a threaded shaft of the actuating member. A locking member is also operably engaged with the camming member and is moved between locked and unlocked positions by movement of the camming member when an operator rotates the actuating member. The apparatus incorporates a limited number of independent component parts and the majority of the component parts are disposed within a housing of the bracket member so as not to be exposed to rain, ice, snow, etc. The bracket members therefore are able to be quickly and easily locked and unlocked relative to their respective slats to allow a cross bar secured to the bracket members to be quickly and easily repositioned along the slats. In an alternative preferred embodiment the actuating member incorporates a torque limiting mechanism which prevents an excessive tightening force from being applied by a user to the actuating member, which excessive tightening force could damage internal components of the bracket member and/or the slat.

    • A vehicle article carrier including a cross bar having a pair of bracket assemblies at each end, where each bracket assembly includes a fixed jaw and a movable jaw which may be cooperatively clamped around a side rail of the article carrier system. The fixed jaw incorporates a keyed recess and the movable jaw incorporates a key. The construction of the keyed recess and the key enable the movable jaw to be pre-positioned so as to not interfere with placement of the cross bar onto the side rails during assembly. Clamping of each bracket assembly to its associated side rail is accomplished simply by turning a threaded fastener engaged with both jaw portions. The movable jaw is rotated automatically into alignment with the fixed jaw and its associated side rail. Further tightening of the fastening member automatically draws the movable jaw into clamping engagement with its associated side rail. The construction of the bracket assembly allows the cross bar to be secured much more quickly and easily to the side rails.

The system may use a pair of support rails secured to the outer body surface generally parallel to one another. The system may also include at least one cross bar having a pair of end supports. Each support rail may include a decorative cover and metallic support element, with the decorative cover being positioned over the metallic support element, and secured thereto, to at least substantially cover the metallic support element. The metallic support element may include at least one aperture at each opposing longitudinal end thereof that allows the support rail to be secured to the outer body roof surface at only its opposing longitudinal ends, and to use pre-existing fastening elements mounted in the outer body roof surface as attachment points for the support rails.

    • A clamp assembly for clamping one or more solar panel cells to a supporting frame rail. The clamp assembly may have a clamp body, an insert and a fastener. The clamp body may have a neck portion and a pair of shoulders extending generally perpendicular to the neck portion. The shoulders may be adapted to overlay edges of a pair of adjacently positioned solar panel cells resting on a frame rail. The insert may be sized to be inserted into the neck portion, with the insert having a plurality of teeth formed along its length. The insert may be captured within the neck portion of the clamp body so as to be non-removable therefrom, but still able to be rotated within the clamp body. The threaded fastener may be pressed into the insert and captured by the teeth, and then once a head portion thereof is positioned within a channel of the frame rail, the insert may be rotated to tighten the fastener and clamp the edges of the pair of solar panel cells to the frame rail.

    • A system and method for forming a vehicle article carrier having a single side release crossbar assembly. The crossbar assembly includes a trigger style, horizontally arranged actuating lever that simultaneously locks and unlocks a pair of locking pins at opposite ends of the crossbar assembly from their respective support rails. The support rails are fixedly secured to an outer body surface of a vehicle such that the crossbar assembly is supported above the outer body surface. The single side release feature eliminates the need for the operator to walk back and forth to both sides of the vehicle to unlock and lock the crossbar assembly when the crossbar assembly needs to be repositioned on the support rails.
