    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-sensitive transfer sheet which can significantly reduce the degree of soiling of a head due to running, when the sheet after the lapse of shelf life time is used. SOLUTION: This heat-sensitive transfer sheet has a yellow dye layer containing a special yellow dye on one side surface of a base film, and a heat-resistant lubricative layer containing a lubricant and a resin formed on the other side surface. In addition, the heat-resistant lubricative layer contains a phosphate ester with a special OH group and/or its salt as a lubricant. Further, the characteristic X rays derived from the K rays of a phosphorus element in the heat-resistant lubricative layer, can be obtained by emitting electron radiations with a beam diameter of not more than 1 μm which are accelerated to 20 kV from the heat-resistant lubricative layer side of the heat-sensitive transfer sheet, Then the intensity of the characteristic X rays is measured using an energy dispersion-type X-ray spectroscope at each spot within the square region of 200 μm lengthwise/breadthwise. In this case, the maximum value of the intensity within the region is at least, not less than 2.5 times the minimum value, and a plurality of the maximum regions with the maximum value of the intensity of the characteristic X-rays derived from the K rays of the phosphorus element, are present within the region. Besides, the coefficient of variation sought by dividing the standard deviation of the maximum value of the characteristic X-ray intensity between the maximum regions by the mean value of the characteristic X-ray intensity, is not more than 0.25.
