    • A multicolor image forming apparatus forms a series of electrostatic images on an image member and tones those images with different colored toners. The toners are transferred in registration to a portion of a continuous web receiving sheet by securing the portion of the web to a transfer roller and moving the transfer roller in a first direction to receive an image and in a second direction to return the portion of the web to a position for receiving a second web image in registration. Movement of the transfer roller during transfer is controlled by the image member. In between transfers movement of the transfer is controlled by a first stepper motor which disengages and engages the transfer roller from the image member and a second stepper motor which resets the transfer roller to its beginning position. The reset motor also brings the transfer roller up to the speed of the image member before reengagement.

    • An image forming apparatus includes a source of at least one intermediate sheet which is preferably both thermally and electrically conductive. Toner images are transferred from one or more image members to the intermediate sheet under conditions of raised temperature and preferably with the assistance of an electric field. The toner image on the intermediate sheet is then overlaid with a receiving sheet and a combination of heat and pressure transfers and fuses the toner image to the receiving sheet in a single step, preferably while the sheets move at full machine speed. The sheets may then be slowed down or stopped, but are maintained together until cool at which point they are separated and the intermediate sheet fed back to the source of intermediate sheets. The image forming apparatus is particularly useful in creating multicolor toner images with small toners.

    • A method of electrostatographically forming a color print that has the feel of a photographic print. A series of color separation electrostatographic latent images are formed on an image member. A different color toner is applied to each latent image to form a series of different color toner images. A receiver sheet is then fed from a supply of receiver sheets to a transfer member. The receiver sheet is attached to the transfer member. The transfer member is repeatedly rotated to bring the receiver sheet through a nip formed by the imaging member and transfer member to transfer the toner images in registration to the receiver sheet to form a multicolor toner image. The receiver sheet is separated from the transfer member and the toner image is fused to the receiver sheet. A support sheet is then fed into contact with a side of the receiver sheet not having the toner image. The support sheet is adhered to the receiver sheet, the resulting receiver sheet/support sheet combination having the feel of a photographic print. In a preferred embodiment of the invention a transparent sheet is applied over the toner image to provide high gloss to the finished print.
