    • An air-cooled motor (20) includes a rotor, a stator having a stator core (28), and front and rear support members (32, 34) disposed at both ends of the stator core (28) in the axial direction. A plurality of air passages (42) extending continuously in the axial direction are provided in each of the stator core (28) and the front and rear support members (32, 34). A centrifugal blower (50) is disposed behind the rear support member (34). Since the centrifugal blower (50) produces a large pressure rise, sufficient air around the motor can be sent into the air passages (42) having small diameters to perform an effective cooling function. A driving portion (56) of the blower (50) is directly fixed by bolts (72) to the rear support member (34). Therefore, the wiring (74) of the driving portion (56) are connected to a terminal box (48) through the internal space of the motor (20). In such a way, the blast capacity is improved and the moisture-proofness of the terminal box is improved.

This device includes a stator core (14) so disposed as to encompass the rotor (10) of the motor, and produced by laminating a plurality of thin sheets (22) made of a magnetic material and bonding them by a resin material, a front housing (16) and a rear housing (18) disposed respectively at the front and rear end portions of the motor in its axial direction, supporting the rotary shaft (12) of the rotor (10) and clamping the stator core (14), a plurality of tie bolts (34) for fastening the front housing (16) and the rear housing (18) while pulling them toward each other and fixing them to the stator core (14), and a plurality of cooling liquid passages (28) defined inside the stator core (14) so as to permit the passage of cooling liquid. When the front housing (16) and the rear housing (18) are fixed to the stator core (14) by a plurality of tie bolts (34), compressive force always acts on the stator core (14) in the axial direction and does not lower sealability of the cooling liquid passages (28) defined inside the stator core (14).
