    • Embodiments of the present invention generally provide methods and apparatus for forming a tubular-lined wellbore which does not decrease in diameter with increasing depth or length. Methods and apparatus for forming a substantially monobore well while drilling with casing are provided. In one aspect, a portion of a second casing is expanded into a portion of a first casing having a larger inner diameter than the remaining portion of the first casing string. In another aspect, the portion of the second casing is expanded into a portion of the first casing having a compressible member therearound. In another aspect, a lined lateral wellbore may be constructed by forming a lateral wellbore extending from a main wellbore lined with casing. A diameter of at least a portion of the lateral wellbore may be expanded. An expandable tubular element may be run into lateral wellbore and expanded to have an inner diameter equal to or larger than an inner diameter of the main wellbore casing. Embodiments provide a fluid path around casing before sealing the casing within a wellbore or within a well casing, even after the casing has been hung within the wellbore or from the well casing.

    • The present invention discloses a whipstock assembly for use in forming a lateral borehole from a parent wellbore. The whipstock assembly comprises a body and a deflection member above the body. The deflection member includes a concave portion for deflecting a milling bit during a milling operation. Disposed on a perforation plate portion of the concave portion is a raised surface feature. The raised surface supports a milling bit above the perforation plate portion during a milling operation. This, in turn, substantially prevents frictional contact between the milling bits and the perforation plate portion during a milling operation. The present invention also provides a novel method for manufacturing a whipstock in which a cavity portion is formed behind the perforation plate by milling out the backside of the deflection member and then joining a second back cover member to the whipstock body to complete the assembly.

    • A wellbore mill has been invented which has milling apparatus with a starting mill and a finishing mill, the starting mill having a central channel extending longitudinally therethrough, the central channel having an interior surface with carbide cutters thereon. A milling method has been invented for finishing a window in a casing in a wellbore, the window having been begun with a first mill, the method including inserting a second mill apparatus into the wellbore adjacent the window, the second mill apparatus having a milling system with a starting mill and a finishing mill, the starting mill having a central channel extending longitudinally therethrough, the central channel having an interior surface with carbide cutters thereon, rotating the second mill apparatus to finish the window. A two-trip milling operation has also been invented for milling a finished window in a casing in a cased wellbore, the wellbore having installed therein an anchoring-orientation device, the operation using the wellbore mill described above. In one aspect the mill(s) mill off high center producing a piece of casing which enters into the hollow portion of the mill(s).

    • The present invention discloses, in certain aspects, a system for securing and item in a tubular channel in a wellbore, the system having a lower body member, an upper body member, interconnecting apparatus for movably interconnecting the lower body member and the upper body member so that upon application of a downward force on the upper body member the upper body member moves downwardly in the second tubular effecting sideways movement of the lower body member so the lower body member contacts an interior surface of the tubular channel thereby wedging the lower body member and the upper body member in the tubular channel, the interconnecting apparatus having a connecting bar disposed partially in a first connecting bar groove in the lower body member and partially in a second connecting bar groove in the upper body member, and the connecting bar grooves and the connecting bar configured so that the connecting bar is movably held in the connecting bar grooves, and at least one pawl member having opposed pawl member ends and movably mounted on the connecting bar, and movable in response to an upward force on the upper body member so that one of the opposed pawl member ends contacts the lower body member and the other pawl member end contacts the upper body member forcing the two body members apart.

    • A downhole wellbore tool has been developed which has a lower movable valve apparatus which, when it contacts a member in a wellbore or in a tubular in a wellbore, is moved to close off fluid flow through the item to which the valve apparatus is attached. In one aspect, such a valve apparatus is used below a mill above which is positioned a downhole motor which rotates the mill for milling. Actuation of the valve apparatus results in a cessation of the circulation of the motive fluid flowing to and through the motor so that milling stops. In one aspect the valve is selectively operable so that milling may be resumed. In another aspect such a tool is useful for indicating a known location in a wellbore when a decrease or cessation in fluid flow or a decrease in pressure is noticed at the surface.
