    • An apparatus and method for channel encoding/decoding are provided which vary an iterative decoding number according to service type, data class and channel condition. A message information receiver receives information about a message to be received. A controller determines an iterative decoding number according to the message information received. A decoder iteratively decodes the received message according to the determined iterative decoding number. The message information includes a class of received data, and the class includes a bit error rate (BER). The iterative decoding number is increased for a low BER as compared to a predetermined BER. Further, the class includes a permissible time delay, and the iterative decoding number is increased for a long permissible time delay as compared to a predetermined permissible time delay. In addition, the message information includes a service type of the received data, and the iterative decoding number is decreased when the service type is a moving picture service.

    • A synchronization (sync) code communication device for a CDMA communication system. A base station sync code transmission device comprises a primary sync code transmitter and a secondary sync code transmitter. The primary sync code transmitter is for generating and then transmitting a primary sync code at a first location in a transmission frame. The primary sync code is for acquiring synchronization at a starting point of a frame and the frame is equal to one period of a spreading code. The secondary sync code transmitter is for generating and then transmitting a secondary sync code at a second location in a frame. The secondary sync codes are assigned to base station groups, one to a group. A mobile station sync code receiving device comprises a primary sync code acquisition decider and a base station group decider. The primary sync code acquisition decider is for acquiring a primary sync code received at a first location in a frame, and then acquiring synchronization at a starting point of a frame. The base station group decider is enabled upon acquisition of the primary sync code, receives a secondary sync code transmitted at a second location in the frame, and then determines the base station group to which the transmitting base station belongs.

    • A method of adjusting the transmission time of data in a CDMA communication system. A UE (User Equipment) measures the time difference between the received time of a downlink DPCH (Dedicated Physical Channel) and the transmitted time of an uplink DPCH and reports it to an RNC (Radio Network Controller). The RNC transmits transmission time adjustment information to a node B and the UE if the time difference is out of a predetermined range. The node B then adjusts the transmission time of the downlink DPCH according to the transmission time adjustment information and transmits the downlink DPCH at the adjusted time. The UE receives the downlink DPCH by adjusting a search time for the downlink DPCH according to the transmission time adjustment information.
