摘要： The present invention seeks to address the chronic and worsening problem of mattress management in hospitals by providing a mattress protector to shield a mattress or mattress core from body fluids, the protector not only comprising a shielding cover for the mattress (1) or mattress core but also a detector in an inter or under-layer (2) of the cover to detect body fluid that has passed into or through the cover. The detector may be chemical, with the cover being a transparent cover (3) and the under-layer being absorbent and having a dye that is activated by a body fluid to provide a visual indication of presence of the body fluid. In an alternative embodiment the detector may be an apparatus monitoring electrical conductivity. This suitably uses threads of electrically conductive yarn forming either the warp or weft of a thin flexible under layer of the protective cover (5) and which are linked to a small processor (7) which monitors the electrical conductivity between neighbouring conductive threads in the sensing layer.

摘要： There is disclosed a flexible sheet structure having improved conformability yet remaining strong and robust. The structure is made up of a plurality of modules that allow relative rotation in both an axis parallel to, the plane and perpendicular to the plane of the sheet when laid flat. This allows the density of the sheet to be locally or globally changed so that improved conformability around complex shapes is provided. There is also disclosed a means for locking and unlocking the modules of the sheet using a locking material in each connection that is activated by the external addition of energy ( e.g. heat energy).

摘要： This invention relates to cell-independent processes which mimic cellular bioremodelling and produce organised biomaterials which have mechanical properties and viable cell densities suitable for use as functional tissue implants. The biomaterials are produced by providing a gel comprising a matrix of scaffold fibres of and an interstitial fluid; and plastically compacting the gel to produce the biomaterial. The biomaterials may comprise 3D structures such as layering, alignment and meso-scale zonal heterogeneities of cells and matrix which mimic native tissue structure. Biomaterials with biomimetic structure as described herein may be useful in a range of therapeutic applications.
