    • Zum Erstellen eines Schnittnestes (N) für das Ausschneiden von Zuschnitten aus flachen, unregelmäßigen Werkstücken (W) werden die Umrißform (U) und die Fehlerstellen (F) der aufgebreiteten Werkstücke (W) samt einem Werkstückkennzeichen mittels einer Digitalisiereinheit (3) erfaβt und die entsprechenden Daten einem Rechner (5) eingelesen, der auf Grund dieser Daten und der dem Rechner (5) eingespeicherten Daten über Anzahl, Gestalt und Qualitätsanforderungen der Zuschnitte ein Schnittnest errechnet und abspeichert und dabei die erfaßten Werkstückkennzeichen der Werkstücke (W) als Werkstückkennung für die Zuordnung der Schnittnester (N) zu den jeweiligen Werkstücken (W) heranzieht. Um bei optimierter Fehlererkennung und Fehlerstellenberücksichtigung ein rationelles Nesten zu ermöglichen, wird vor dem rechnerseitigen automatischen Nesten für ausgewählte Teilbereiche (T) der Werkstücke (W) interaktiv genestet, indem über den Rechner (5) zur Verfügung gestellte und optisch den Werkstücken (W) bzw. einer Abbildung der Werkstücke überlagerbare Bilder (B) der zu nestenden Zuschnittsformen (Z) durch gezielte, vorzugsweise über die Digitalisiereinheit erkennbare Steuerungseingriffe des Nesters positioniert und innerhalb der Teilbereiche (T) zu Teilnestem (Nt) zusammengesetzt werden, worauf der Rechner (5) für die verbleibenden Restbereiche (R) der Werkstücke (W) Restnester (Nr) errechnet, die Restnester (Nr) mit den zugehörigen Teilnestern (Nt) kombiniert und diese Kombinationen aus Teil- und Restnestern jeweils als Schnittnest (N) für die einzelnen Werkstücke (W) abspeichert.

    • For making a nest of cuts (N) for cutting blanks out of flat, irregular workpieces (W), the contour (U) and the flaws (F) of the spread workpieces (W) together with a workpiece characteristic are detected by means of a digitizing unit (3), and the corresponding data are read into a computer (5), which on the basis of these data and the data stored in the computer (5) concerning number, shape and quality requirements of the blanks calculates and stores a nest of cuts and utilizes the detected workpiece characteristics of the workpieces (W) as a workpiece code for allocating the nests of cuts (N) to the respective workpieces (W). To provide for an economic nesting with an optimized detection of flaws and consideration of flaws, an interactive nesting is performed for selected partial areas (T) of the workpieces (W) prior to the automatic nesting on the part of the computer, in that images (B) of the blanks (Z) to be nested, which were provided by the computer (5) and can optically be superimposed on the workpieces (W) or an image of the workpieces, are positioned by specific control operations of the nester, preferably by control operations to be recognized by the digitizing unit, and are combined to partial nests (Nt) within the partial areas (T), whereupon the computer (5) calculates residual nests (Nr) for the remaining residual areas (R) of the workpieces (W), combines the residual nests (Nr) with the associated partial nests (Nt) and stores each of these combinations of partial and residual nests as nest of cuts (N) for the individual workpieces (W).

    • A method and apparatus for supporting sheet material such as cloth during operations thereon such as cutting wherein a pattern is placed on a supporting surface provided with a plurality of pins extending through apertures in the surface, the pins are lowered below the surface for removal of the pattern whereupon sheet material is placed on the surface, typically a plurality of plies being layed up in a stack, and simultaneously the pins are moved through the sheet material to maintain alignment and matching of the plies in the stack. The pattern then is placed on the sheet material in a position determined by the location of the pins, and the material is shaped such as by cutting.A plurality of separate pin holding and supporting devices, each of relatively narrow width, are provided in spaced relation lengthwise along the apparatus and are independently movable lengthwise toward and away from each other. Each pin holding and supporting device includes a pin contacting component wherein a pin contacting surface is defined by a member mounted for limited movement and wherein another pin contacting surface is provided with a wear resistant coating. There is also provided an arrangement for moving the supporting devices to move the pins through the apertures between a position where the heads of the pins are spaced below the supporting surface and a position where the pins extend through the apertures and the heads of the pins are above the supporting surface so that the sheet material can be anchored thereon.

    • Method and apparatus for cutting off selected length panels from an indefinte length strip of fabric with minimum waste, the fabric being comprised as superposed longitudinal and transverse elongate elements, wherein the transverse elements may deviate from strict perpendicularity to the length direction of the strip, e.g., be skewed or bowed. A support defines a path along which the strip of fabric and its longitudinal elements are to extend. A cutter unit is actuable for cutting elements of the strip to cut off a panel from the strip. A transverse moving unit relatively moves the cutter means and strip in a direction transverse to the length of the strip to cut the full width of the strip and thereby separate a panel therefrom. A longitudinal moving unit is actuable for relatively moving the cutter and strip in a direction longitudinal of the strip. A vision guided unit optically responds to deviations in the direction of at least one of the transverse elements of the strip adjacent the cutter for actuating the longitudinal moving unit to relatively move the cutter and strip to enable the cutter to cut the strip substantially along a single transverse element and at least substantially avoid cutting of transverse elements, despite substantially skewing or bowing of the transverse elements out of perpendicularity with the length direction of the strip.
