    • In the violin family of acoustical instruments an electrical transducer designed to convert vibration into an electrical signal is to be mounted on the bass bar of such instruments. The electrical transducer may be mounted on the bass bar of the instrument, and the position of the electrical transducer on the bass bar may vary by instrument type. Such a location would be about the center of the bass bar. An electrical wire is connected to the electrical transducer on one end and to an electrical connector at the other end. The electrical connector passes through the sidewall of the instrument and is secured thereto. An external device may be connected to the electrical connector, placing the external device in communication with the electrical signals produced by the instrument when it is played. The external device may modify the electrical signal produced by the electrical transducer. Alternatively the electrical transducer may be wireless.

    • A string saddle system for a multi-stringed instrument includes a unitary saddle body having opposing surfaces and a top saddle portion that support tensioned strings and receive vibratory energy therefrom. The saddle body includes a plurality of integral cavities, each integral cavity in correspondence with a respective string and defining an area of sensitivity beneath each string within the saddle body, each area of sensitivity extending from the top surface of the saddle body above the cavity beneath the respective string to the corresponding cavity structure and extending horizontally according to a length of the integral cavity. A flexurally responsive transducer element is mechanically coupled to each integral cavity at mechanical coupling points, the transducer element for converting vibratory energy from the respective string to an electric signal, the area of sensitivity conveying vibrations of the respective string to the suspended transducer element via a mechanical coupling point located within each respective integral cavity structure. A first conductor is embedded within the top surface, and a second conductor embedded within the saddle body, the embedded first conductor and the embedded second conductor having respective portions extending to each the integral cavity structure to provide exposed electrical contact areas at a cavity surface defining electrical coupling points for electrically connecting the transducer element to the first and second conductors at each respective the integral cavity structure.

    • A transducer for use with a musical instrument to transmit vibrations from the instrument to an amplifier has a weight, at least one sensor connected to the weight, an insulating layer covering the weight and the sensor, a substrate layer covering the insulating layer, an attachment device for mounting the transducer to the musical instrument and a cable mounted to the bas for connecting the transducer to an amplifier. One conductor of the cable is mounted to the weight and a ground shield of the cable is connected to the substrate. The transducer translates surface vibrations of the instrument into electrical signals that can then be amplified or recorded. The transducer has superior tonal qualities.

    • A plurality of sound pick-up devices are mounted between the legs and wings of a bridge for a bass viol. Each sound pick-up device comprises a brass housing in which is disposed a transducer disc. Contiguous with one side of the transducer disc is a brass shim contact. A foam damper pad is disposed between the shim contact and the housing. The housing is in the form of spaced members joined at one side and a silicon latex potting material fills the spaces remaining between the spaced members. A coaxial cable interconnects the pick-up devices and is of sufficient length to permit the mounting of the pick-up devices in the side cut-out slots between the crown wings and the legs on each side of the bridge. The coaxial cable terminates on a cable connector for connection to an amplifier through a suitable output cable.
