    • A method of lubricating a bearing (58) in a printing unit (14) includes the step of directing a quantity of grease into the bearing (58), and the step of directing pressurized air into contact with the grease. The bearing (58) supports a printing cylinder (16) for rotation in the printing unit (14), and includes a plurality of rolling elements (100) between a pair of opposed bearing race surfaces (94, 88). A predetermined quantity (160) of grease is directed to flow from a hydraulic pump (114) to the space between the bearing race surfaces (94, 88). The pressurized air is directed to flow from a pneumatic pump (132) into contact with the grease to remove a first portion of the predetermined quantity (160) of grease from the space between the bearing race surfaces (94, 88). The pressurized air further spreads a second portion of the predetermined quantity (160) of grease into coatings (190) which extend over the rolling element surfaces (104) and the bearing race surfaces (94, 88).

    • A pre-start lubricating system for reducing wear in internal combustion engines delivers lubricating oil into an engine oiling system at a pressure greater than the engine's normal operating oil pressure before the engine is cranked. The pre-start lubricating system involves the engine's vacuum, electrical and oiling system. The pre-start lubrication system has a pressure vessel of desired volume with a vacuum communicator and an oil communicator with a first aperture. A piston inside the pressure vessel between the oil communicator and the vacuum communicator defines an oil storage reservoir and a vacuum reservoir. Connected to the piston is a piston spring for biasing the piston against oil pressure and vacuum and for raising oil pressure in the oil reservoir after the engine has been shut down and the vacuum in the vacuum reservoir has dissipated. A valve for controlling oil flow between the oil storage reservoir and the engine oiling system has a moveable core and a biasing spring for moving the core toward the first aperture. An actuator operates the valve for releasing oil held under pressure in the oil storage reservoir and has an electrical solenoid for moving the core away form the first aperture, a switch for energizing the solenoid, and a timer. Finally, a thermal pressure relief device in the valve relieves excess pressure created by thermal expansion of oil in the oil storage reservoir.

    • The invention is a low volume lubricant delivery system for delivering low volumes of lubricant, entrained by gas, to workpieces and comprises essentially: a plurality of electrical conductors; a plurality of lubricant passages and a plurality of gas passages, preferably pipes; a compressor for supplying gas under pressure; a gas inlet; a gas outlet; gas flow control valves, one of which is a solenoid valve; a constant pressure pump; a lubricant entrainment structure, preferably a nozzle; a lubricant outlet; lubricant flow control valves, of which one is a solenoid valve; a lubricant supply and a timer. The lubricant supply being connected to the constant pressure pump by at least one lubricant pipe; the constant pressure pump means being connected to the lubricant flow control valves by at least one lubricant pipe and to the gas flow control valves by at least one gas pipe; the lubricant flow control valves being connected to the lubricant outlet by at least one lubricant pipe; the gas flow control device being connected to and between the gas inlet and the gas outlet by a gas passage; the gas inlet being connected by a gas passage to the gas supply; the timer being connected to the lubricant flow control valves by the power conductors; the timer generally controlling the operation of the lubricant flow control device so that the amount of lubricant delivered to the lubricant outlet is controlled; the lubricant entrainment nozzle comprising at least both the coolent outlet and the gas outlet; whereby the gas from the gas supply is delivered through the low volume lubricant delivery system to the gas outlet in the gas entrainment device and the lubricant from the lubricant supply is delivered through the low volume lubricant delivery system to the lubricant outlet in the gas entrainment device where the gas and the lubricant are discharged and the gas entrains the lubricant and delivers the lubricant to the workpiece.

    • Wellhead production apparatus is set forth. It is adapted to be connected to a cased well having a production tubing string therein. It cooperates with a plunger traveling freely in the production tubing string. The wellhead apparatus connects typically through a flange at the wellhead, a master valve, a vertically extending tube which connects into and comprises a tee. The equipment extends thereabove so that the plunger can travel above the tee and is rebounded for reciprocation. The tee is formed of two cylindrical members which are arranged concentric of one another to define an annular flow space therebetween. The annular flow space being connected through an opening into a lateral production flow line. The tee thus cannot be blinded by stalling the plunger even with the lateral flow line.

    • A conveyor lubrication apparatus includes a counter for energizing lubrication devices once for each predetermined number of cycles of the conveyor past a lubrication station. Timers energized by the counter activate control valves for a predetermined period of time to supply lubricant to parts of the conveyor as each part reaches the lubrication station. A current sense circuit detects current flow to the control valves and energizes the central lubricant supply pump to pressurize the lubricant flow lines for a predetermined period of time, at the end of which the pump is de-energized until the next control valve is energized. A pressure sensor is disposed in the lubricant flow lines to detect a low pressure level and causes the pump to be de-energized and an alarm to be activated.

    • A simple and inexpensive apparatus for treating a floppy disk with conditioning fluid in order to clean, lubricate and destaticize the floppy disk is described. The apparatus comprises a means for grasping the floppy disk about its center and rotating it, fluid absorbing pads which are moveable into and out of contact with the magnetic surfaces of the floppy disk through the read/write opening in the floppy disk envelope by mechanical means and a means for dispensing fluid to the pads. In one preferred embodiment, the mechanical rotation of a lever causes the floppy disk to be grasped and released through the cooperation of an axial cam and a pin riding on the cam. Rotation of the lever also moves the pads into and out of contact with the floppy disk. In a second preferred embodiment, a timer provided with a gear wheel controls an axial cam for grasping and releasing the floppy disk and a radial cam which moves the pads into and out of contact with the floppy disk.
