    • A cathode ray tube having an electron gun assembly in which a plurality of electrodes constitute an electron beam generating unit for generating electron beams, and an electron lens unit for focusing the generated beams on a predetermined location on a phosphor screen. The electron gun assembly further contains a pair of insulating support rods for supporting the electrodes, a resistor unit for applying a voltage to at least one of the electrodes. A metal ring is mounted in contact with a predetermined electrode of the electron lens unit and surrounds the insulating support rods. Terminal voltage pickup terminals apply a voltage to the resistor unit. At least a first and second intermediate voltage pickup terminal supply a voltage from the resistor unit to a first and second electrode. The first and second intermediate voltage pickup terminals are located in relation to the metal ring such that a discharge is prevented and image quality is preserved.

    • A color cathode ray tube with a shadow mask has a screen partitioned into a plurality of elemental screen areas and electron guns positioned and corresponding to the respecting elemental screen areas, the electron guns generating electron beams to scan the screen. The shadow mask includes effective regions having a number of apertures passed through by the electron beams to impinge on the screen and a non-effective region adjacent to the effective regions. Phosphors as a signal source are deposited on the non-effective regions or the boundaries between the elemental screen areas to emit a light signal by electron beam excitation. A photo-electric transducer is provided facing the shadow mask and to detect the light signal for feed back to a deflection system to control the electron beam deflection.

    • A method of making a mask arrangement including two (2) or more of masks for a mask-focusing color picture tube and the mask arrangement formed by the method. A plurality of apertured flat masks, each mask comprising an effective portion having apertures and a non-effective portion surrounding the effective portion, are prepared. The flat masks are aligned and stacked, then filling material is poured into the apertures. The filling material is solidified thereby fixing the flat masks together. The fixed masks are pressed into a predetermined curved shape. Then, the filling material is removed from the apertures and the masks are separated.

The three electron beams can be properly focused to obtain good image characteristics on an entire screen.

    • In a color cathode ray tube apparatus wherein three in-line electron beams are deflected by horizontal and vertical deflection magnetic fields of a deflector. Of the three electron beams, the center beam is focused at a higher degree than the pair of side beams by an electric field lens forming unit. The pair of side beams are deflected by a deflecting unit in the direction of arrangement of the three electron beams away from the center beam and are made incident on a focusing magnetic field generating device constituting a common magnetic field focusing type electron lens for focusing and converging the three electron beams. Then, the three electron beams are directed to a phosphor screen. Accordingly, the electron beams are desirably focused and converged on the phosphor screen with a small beam spot size.
