    • Systems and methods for providing an efficient mechanism for transmitting interference vectors to communications terminals, such as user equipments (UEs), in an over the air radio telecommunications network with spatially multiplexed multiple user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) capability. A new pre-coding information downlink channel is defined. Messages containing semi-persistent interference vector information for MU-MIMO user equipment are defined and transmitted over the new channel in a manner that allows infrequent transmission and efficient use of resources. Using the interference vectors and applying inter-user interference adaptation to received messages, the UEs may receive spatially multiplexed MIMO transmissions and actively remove inter-user interference after reception of the messages. Compression of the pre-coding vector information transmitted over the pre-coding information channel may result in additional increases in efficiency in the system.

    • Examples are described relating to methods, apparatus and computer programs for configuring a user equipment in a cellular wireless network. Certain exemplary methods involve receiving (440), at the user equipment (430), control information regarding one or more of a plurality of channel-state information (CSI) reference signals. The plurality of CSI reference signals are receivable by the user equipment (430) from one or more of a plurality of antenna ports that form part of the cellular wireless network, the plurality of CSI reference signal being associated with corresponding antenna ports. The control information is for use in configuration of the user equipment (430) and is received over a radio communications downlink from a node (410) in the cellular wireless network. If estimation of one or more radio communication channels at the user equipment (430) is configured (450) based on the received control information, improvements in demodulation and CSI feedback are achieved.

    • Structure of a multi-carrier flexible spectrum wireless cell is determined from received synchronization or broadcast channels of detected individual carriers. The determined structure is used to select an intended carrier for initial access or cell reselection to the flexible spectrum wireless cell. The structure may have carriers compatible with an earlier version (LTE/Release 8) of a communication standard and with a later version (LTE-A/Release 9). The received synchronization channels can inform of: relative positions of the individual carriers in a spectrum band of the multi-carrier structure; relative timing alignments of the received synchronization channels; contents of the received synchronization channels; and/or layer 1 cell-carrier identifiers. The synchronization channels may have a different structure as between the earlier and later versions, and the different structure is used to select the carrier that is compatible with the user equipment making the selection.
