    • An electric discharge machine having a source of pulse power, optionally including bipolar pulses, which is connected to an electrode which forms a gap with a workpiece and is operative to provide both machining and finishing processes. Switching of power to the machining gap and impedance matching at the machining gap, in order to suppress the influence of the capacitance of the high-speed machining feeder cables connected to the machining gap in finishing, is provided so that machining can be performed at high accuracy with a properly timed and shaped discharge current. Impedance matching is provided by selectively switching among plural capacitances or inductances, which may be in the form of cables or printed patterns on a circuit board which have predetermined values, such as a geometric series values of which coefficient is 2.

    • An electrical discharge machine for machining a workpiece with the application of a voltage to a machining gap formed between an electrode and the workpiece which has a direct-current power supply for supplying a machining current and a current limiting device connected in series with the direct-current power supply for limiting the machining current. A switching device is connected in series with the direct-current power supply and current limiting device and is operative to provide a voltage to the machining gap and to form a direct-current pulse. A series circuit of an inductance and a capacitor is provided in parallel with the machining gap. The purpose of the series circuit is either for suppressing the interruption of a direct-current pulse current component which follows a capacitor discharge current component, whereby the occurrence of a pulse crack phenomenon can be prevented or for suppressing the continuation of a direct-current pulse current component, particularly pulses, which follows a capacitor discharge current component. Depending on whether or not the finish is to be of mirror quality, values of capacitance and inductance for the series circuit can be chosen within specified ranges.

    • An automatic wire feeder of a wire electric discharge machine includes an optical sensor for detecting positional information of a wire electrode in an inserting passage between a feed roller for feeding a wire electrode and an upper wire guide; and a control unit for discriminating a state of vibration or deflection of the wire electrode according to the positional information detected by the optical sensor and also for controlling a feeding and rewinding motion of the feed roller according to a quantity of deflection of the wire electrode. Due to the foregoing, buckling caused by an inserting load in the process of automatic wire connection can be positively detected, and the reliability can be enhanced and further the repetition of connecting the wire again can be reduced.
