摘要： A translation machine is provided with an idiom registering capability. If a header standing for a idiom contains two or more variable parts, these parts are represented by representative symbols. With this representing method, the idiom is allowed to be easily registered and retrieved. This makes it possible to shorten the registering time, reduce the translating toil and prevent increase of information storage capacity. The translation machine includes an input unit, a storing unit, an output unit, an idiom registering unit, and a translating unit for performing a routine translating operation. The idiom registering unit operates to register an idiom header with two or more representative symbols standing for words or word trains sharing a predetermined attribute.

摘要： In a machine translation system, a default translation flag for indicating a default equivalent word is set in a dictionary in a memory. A normal equivalent-word selector of a translation module executes semantic analysis on a case structure tree determined by a dictionary-lookup morpheme analyzing part, a syntax analyzer, and a tree structure transforming unit. If the case structure tree has failed in the semantic analysis, a special equivalent-word selector executes a default translation processing to adopt the default equivalent word indicated by the default translation as an optimum equivalent word such that the case structure tree is passed. Thus, even if the case structure tree has failed in the semantic analysis due to strict semantic restrictions, a translation can be securely generated. Further, if the case structure tree has not failed in the semantic analysis, a high-accuracy translation can be generated.

摘要： An automatic translating machine includes a module for producing a plurality kinds of parsing trees possible for a sentence in a first language, a module for producing translated sentences in a second language based on the parsing trees, a device for designating an arbitrary word in the sentence in the first language, and a first selection device for selecting arbitrary one of a plurality of constituents of the sentence in the first language each including the word such as a verbal phrase and a noun phrase. A verbal phrase and a noun phrase can be analyzed into a plurality of subtrees due to ambiguity present in a sentence in the first language. The automatic translating machine further includes a device for selecting arbitrary one of a plurality kinds of constituents of a translated sentence in the second language (such as a verbal phrase and a noun phrase in the second language) produced based on each of the plurality of subtrees of the parsing tree corresponding to the selected constituent.
