    • A digital tape recording and reproducing apparatus includes a rotary drum, a magnetic tape helically wrapped around the rotary drum, a mechanism for advancing the magnetic tape relative to the rotary drum, and a recording/reproducing magnetic head mounted on the drum which scans the magnetic tape for recording or reproducing digital signals. The digital signals are recorded in, or reproduced from, successive inclined tracks formed on the tape as the tape is advanced. During recording of the signals, a timing signal is generated at a predetermined interval of time after detection of a reference signal that represents a phase of rotation of the drum, and then the timing signal is recorded in at least one of the inclined tracks, interspersed with the digital signals recorded in the track. During reproduction of signals from the tape, the drum phase reference signal is detected and the timing signal is reproduced and detected, and the time interval between detection of the two signals is measured. The mechanism for advancing the tape is controlled on the basis of the measured interval so that the magnetic head properly scans the recorded tracks.

    • A color cathode ray tube has a coating film formed over an outer surface of a face plate. The coating film prevents a charge-up phenomenon of the face plate and also has a function for improving a contrast performance of the color cathode ray tube. The coating film is composed of a polymer of silicon alkoxide, translucent conductive particles and plural types of dyes or pigments. The absorption peak of the main absorption band of the coating film is set in the range between the main spectrum wavelength of 570 nm of the green luminescence and the main spectrum wavelength of 610 nm of the red luminescence of the color cathode ray tube. The absorption peak of the sub absorption band of the coating film is in at least one of a first range between a wavelength of 380 nm and a wavelength of 420 nm and a second range between a wavelength of 470 nm and a wavelength of 510 nm.

    • This invention relates to a data transmission method or the like for use in transmitting video data, audio data or the like. There is transmitted a serial digital transfer interface transmission packet in which an interval of each line of a video frame comprises an end synchronizing code area into which an end synchronizing code is inserted, an ancillary data area into which ancillary data is inserted, a start synchronizing code area into which a start synchronizing code is inserted and a payload area. Into the payload area, there are inserted first data containing extension data having stream information and second data containing main data comprising video data and/or audio data at the picture unit of video data. The stream information is information which indicates whether or not the picture unit belongs to a pre-roll interval located ahead of an editing interval, whether or not the picture unit belongs to an editing interval and whether or not the picture unit belongs to a post-roll interval located behind an editing interval. A reception side becomes able to positively edit data on a VTR, for example, by effectively utilizing the stream information.
