摘要： PURPOSE:To form an uniform orientation film also on an organic color filter by a simple method by dissolving orientation film forming high molecular compound into a solvent having surface tensile force lower than the critical surface tensile force of the surface of a color filter to be used and applying the dissolved solution to form an orientation film. CONSTITUTION:When the critical surface tensile force of a color filter 3 is 40 dyne/cm e.g., the color filter 3 is formed on transparent electrodes 2 formed on a glass base 1, polyimide as the orientation film forming high molecular compound is dissolved in cyclohexene having 35 dyne/cm surface tensile force to prepare a 5wt% solution and the solution is applied to the color filter by a pin coating method, so that a uniform orientation film 4 prevented from crawling or pin holes can be obtained. Then the 2nd transparent electrode 6 is formed on the 2nd glass base 5, an orientation film 7 is formed on the electrode 6 and rubbed, both the treated bases 1, 5 are opposed and stuck to each other and the gap between both the bases 1, 5 is filled with liquid crystal to form a TN-FEM multi-color liquid crystal display device.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a colored layer which is free from a deviation in pattern even if the display pattern is fine and which has no need for stain-proofing and is fast by using a conductive thin film on a TFT base as an electrode and forming the colored layer by electrodeposition using an electrodepositing liquid consisting of a high polymer and a dye which is hardly soluble in water. CONSTITUTION:A conductive part on a TFT array is used as an electrode 19 for electrodeposition and an electrodeposited layer 24 is selectively formed on said conductive part by electrodeposition from a soln. prepd. by dissolving or dispersing an electrodepositable high polymer and dye. The same operation is thereafter repeated to form a color filter. An electrode for display connected to the drain of the TFT is used as the electrode 19. The electrode 19 is further connected to a gate wire 18 and a source wire 22. A voltage is selectively impressed to the wire 18 or the wire 22 to electrodeposit a colored layer 24 on the electrode 19 and thereafter the electrode 19 is formed on the layer 24 and is connected to a drain 23. The electrode 19 is formed of a transparent conductor. Further, an anion type is used as the electrodepositable high polymer and the electrode 19 is used as an anode to form the colored layer. The color filter having the fine and rigid pattern is thus formed without deviation.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a display device using fine spacers which are formed in prescribed positions with good accuracy by using a thin conductive film formed on a substrate as an electrode and electrodepositing a high polymer thereon. CONSTITUTION:A high polymer into which, for example, a carboxylic group is introduced and of which the carboxyl group is neutralized and water-solubilized by an inorg. alkali, org. amine, etc. is used. When an electrode is dipped in the aq. soln. of the water-solubilized high polymer and a voltage is impressed thereon, the carboxyl anion dissociated in the aq. soln. migrates electrically and reacts with the proton generated by the electrolysis of the water on the electrode, by which the high polymer is insolubilized and deposited. Namely, the reaction expressed by the formula I takes place on the anode and the deposition of the high polymer is observed. The adduct of s natural drying oil and a maleic acid, an alkyd resin introduced therein with a carboxyl group, the adduct of an epoxy resin and a maleic acid, a polybutadiene resin introduced therein with a carboxyl group, a copolymer of an acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and ester thereof, etc. are used as the high polymer for such electrodeposition. Other high polymer or an org. compd. having a functional group is introduced into the skeleton thereof.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent the defective adhesion between substrates, unequal gap and elution of impurities by necessitating stripping of an inorg. insulating film in a part where the remaining of the impurities is of a problem and forming an org. insulating film to the point where the remaining of the impurities is of no problem. CONSTITUTION:The inorg. insulating film 11 is formed by a sputtering method to the sealing part 7 of transparent substrates 1, 9 on which transparent electrodes 4 are patterned to a prescribed shape. The org. insulating film 10 is then formed to a connecting terminal part and thereafter, a color filter 3 is formed by a high-polymer electrodeposition method, following which the org. insulating film 10 is stripped. The stage is simplified by effectively utilizing the inorg. and org. insulating films in such a manner. The improvement in quality by uniformization of the gap between the substrates, the improvement in the adhesion of the sealing part and the improvement in the reliability by prevention of impurity intrusion are thereby contrived.

摘要： PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the reliability of orientation by providing a protective layer on an electrodeposited color filter and providing an oriented layer thereon. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2 consisting of tin oxide are formed by patterning on a transparent glass substrate 1 and the substrate is immersed in an electrodeposition soln., then a voltage is impressed thereto to bake the coating and form a filter 3. The film is coated from the soln. by spin coating and is cured by heating to form the protective layer 4. A cyclohexanone soln. of a polyimide is coated by a spin coating method on the protective layer 4 and is baked. The surface is subjected to a rubbing treatment by rubbing the surface with a cotton fabric in a specified direction to form the oriented layer 5. The substrate formed by providing the 2nd transparent electrodes 7 on the 2nd glass substrate 6, forming the oriented film 8 thereon and rubbing the film is stuck to the substrate 1 to be opposed thereto. A liquid crystal 9 is filled into the space therebetween, by which a multi-color liquid crystal display device is formed.

摘要： PURPOSE:To manufacture a multicolored display device which holds surface uniformly and has a high display quality, by forming its conductive layer in multiple layers with an SnO2 layer at the top. CONSTITUTION:A conductive layer 2 is formed in such a way that an In2O3 film is first formed by sputtering and an SnO2 film is formed on the In2O3 film by CVD, and then, the two layers of transparent conductive films are subjected to patterning. The patterned films are used as electrodes. Then a display substrate 6 on which display electrodes 7 are formed is dipped in an electrodeposition bath having a prescribed chemical composition. Electrodes to be colored in the same color are selected out of the display electrodes 7 patterned in stripes and a voltage is applied by using the selected electrodes as anodes. Then the display substrate is pulled up and sufficiently washed with water and, after the solution adhering to parts where the voltage is not applied is washed away, dried up. Thereafter, the polyester resin and melamine resin in the colored layer formed by electrodeposition are hardened by utilizing their condensation reaction when baked.

A matrix type multicolor display device suitable for low voltage drive can be obtained by filling nematic liquid crystals between the base 17 provided with FET and the color filters 23-23'' and the base having a wholly transparent conductive film 25.

The obtained, e.g. green colored layer has a transparent fast mixed color and it is free from any pattern slip.
