摘要： The contamination free gas-oil ratio or the percent contamination of a formation fluid is determined using fluid composition data obtained over a suitable time scale. The data may relate to optical densities at spectral peaks corresponding to different components of the formation fluid, or to mass concentrations of each component. The data can then be fitted to a suitable function, such as an exponential function or a power function, in order to provide estimates of values of the property of interest.

摘要： A water-based-mud (WBM) filtrate containing a fluorescent tracer dye is pumped into the borehole. A sample fluid from a selected downhole location is pumped through a flow line and is illuminated by fluorescent excitation light through a window in the flow line. The emission fluorescence of the sample fluid is measured to produce a value representative of the concentration of WBM filtrate in the fluid sample. The fluid sample is validated once the WBM filtrate concentration has fallen below predetermined fraction of a calibration value. Flushing time to completion can be predicted from a series of measurements over time.

摘要： A sensor for monitoring carbon dioxide in a fluid regardless of the phase properties of the fluid, i.e. regardless of whether the fluid contacting the window is a liquid water based phase, a liquid oil-based phase, a mixture of liquid water and liquid oil-based phases, or a gas phase. The sensor includes an internal reflection window 4 for contacting with the fluid. A mid-infrared light source 1 directs a beam of mid-infrared radiation into the window and the beam is internally reflected at an interface between the window and the fluid. The reflected beam is passed through three narrow bandpass filters 5 which preferentially transmit mid-infrared radiation over bands of wavelengths corresponding to absorbance peaks of water, oil and CO2. The amount of CO2 is determined from the intensities of the mid-infrared radiation passing through the three filters. In another aspect a method of determining CO2Â is provided wherein the amount of CO2 is determined by calculating the phase of the fluid and the measured intensity of the radiation.

摘要： A sensor and method is provided for monitoring a mineral acid dissolved in a liquid. The sensor includes an internal reflection window 4 which, in use, is in direct contact with the liquid. The sensor further includes a mid-infrared light source 1 which directs a beam of mid-infrared radiation into said window for attenuated internal reflection at an interface between the window and the liquid. The sensor further includes a first narrow bandpass filter 5 which preferentially transmits mid-infrared radiation over a band of wavelengths corresponding to an absorbance peak of the dissolved mineral acid to filter internally reflected mid-infrared radiation received from the window. The sensor further includes an infrared detector 6 which detects filtered mid-infrared radiation transmitted through the first filter. The sensor further includes a processor arrangement 7 operably coupled to the infrared detector, which measures the intensity of the detected mid-infrared radiation transmitted through the first filter; and determines therefrom an amount of the mineral acid dissolved in the liquid. In one embodiment, the liquid in a well is monitored. A further sensor may be provided for monitoring CO2 in a fluid.

摘要： Water-based mud filtrate concentration in a downhole fluid sample drawn from the borehole of an oil well is assessed. To measure water-based mud filtrate concentration, a water-based mud having a water-soluble fluorescent dye tracer is pumped into the borehole; sample fluid from a selected downhole location is pumped through a downhole flow line having a window; sample fluid flowing in an excitation region of the downhole flow line is illuminated through the window with fluorescence excitation light; and fluorescence emission from the excitation region is measured to produce a measured value. The measured value represents the fraction of water-based mud filtrate in the sample fluid. A calibration value is determined representing 100% water-based mud filtrate. A method for validating a sample of connate water as having an acceptably low WBM filtrate contamination tests for validation downhole, in real time. Each measured value of the series of measured values is compared with a predetermined fraction of a calibration value. Samples that are validated may be captured and brought to the surface for analysis. A method using the time series data and a predetermined fraction of the calibration value calculates a predicted flushing time to completion.
