    • Gastrostomy ports are disclosed for reliably providing enteral feeding to a patient over long periods of time. Gastrostomy ports shown herein provide one-way valves which include a resilient valve member which is compressively fitted within a receiving cavity defined by a rigid compression collar. The valve member has a diaphragm portion defining a slit. The compression collar presses inwardly against the outer peripheral edge of the diaphragm portion to apply laterally compressive forces which bias the slit toward a normally closed position. Gastrostomy ports are further shown for accessing the interior of a body cavity or organ which are self retaining and resist inadvertent pull-out but can be atraumatically implanted and removed. The devices include a retaining element which is resiliently deformable between a normally enlarged state for retention and a collapsed state for insertion and removal through a stoma and are provided with means for controllably biasing the element toward a longitudinal axis for collapsing the element. Still additional embodiments are disclosed which provide for the direct conversion of an implanted PEG tube into a low profile feeding port, and which further provide for the direct secure connection to an enteral feeding tube adapter.

    • Gastrostomy feeding ports are disclosed which remain positively sealed after repeated and extensive use. In one embodiment, a valve housing defines an inner passageway to provide fluid communication into a long term indwelling catheter and includes a rigid compression collar portion which defines a valve member receiving cavity within the inner passageway. The resilient valve member has an outer peripheral edge which generally conforms in shape to the valve member receiving cavity but is larger in dimension than the cavity when uncompressed. The resilient valve member also includes an outer wall portion which extends away from the outer peripheral edge of the diaphragm portion and which generally conforms in shape to the cavity. The resilient valve member is compressively fitted within the receiving cavity by the advancing of the outer wall portion into said cavity to thereby cause the outer peripheral edge to be compressed in dimension to fit within the cavity, with the compression collar pressing inwardly against the outer peripheral edge of the diaphragm portion to apply laterally compressive forces which bias the slit toward a normally closed position. Additional embodiments are disclosed which provide for the direct conversion of an implanted PEG tube into a low profile feeding port, and which further provide for the direct secure connection to an enteral feeding tube adapter.

    • A suction device for removing material from the trachea of a patient during ventilation comprising, a catheter having an internal lumen and opposed front and rear ends with the front end including a suction opening, front and rear couplings supporting the catheter and a protective sleeve normally enclosing the catheter and in turn connected to the front and rear couplings, the catheter is fixedly connected at its rear end to the rear coupling, the front coupling includes an internal seal for slidable receipt of the outer surface of the catheter. Thus, the catheter front end may be inserted into and withdrawn from the trachea of said patient. The rear coupling includes an irrigation port in turn communicating with the catheter lumen whereby lavage fluid may be injected into the port so as to wash the lumen and to directly irrigate the patient's trachea through said suction opening.

    • A device for draining wounds comprises an elongated catheter member having first and second lumens, an antibacteria filter received in communication with the second lumen adjacent the proximal end thereof and a check valve which is interposed between the proximal end of said second lumen and the filter. The distal end of the catheter member is receivable in a wound for draining the wound via suction applied to the proximal end of the first lumen, and a venting effect is provided by the second lumen through the filter and the check valve. The check valve prevents the backflow of liquids through the second catheter member into the filter to prevent the clogging thereof.

    • An inhalation device which induces respiratory exercise and which is inexpensive, safe and easy to handle and operate. The device includes a flow measurement container having a chamber in which is housed a flow rate indicator, such as a light-weight article or ball that normally rests at the bottom of the chamber. Extending into the container are opposing openings, one of which connects the chamber to a passageway through which a person inhales to remove air from the chamber, and the other of which connects the chamber to atmosphere for lifting the indicator upon inhalation.In one embodiment the opposed openings extend through the top wall of the container. A restricted opening or port connects the chamber to atmosphere and a larger opposing opening or port to the passageway.In another embodiment the openings are provided in the upper and lower portions of the container. The upper opening connects the top portion of the chamber to the passageway and the lower opening connects the lower portion of the chamber to atmosphere for lifting the indicator.With the inhalation device of the invention, the user nurse, or therapist can readily measure the amount inspired. A predetermined amount of inhalation for a given time (precalibrated rate of flow) is required to raise the indicator to the top of the chamber, and predetermined additional amounts of inhalation for given additional times are required to maintain the indicator at the top thereof.

The catheter anchoring device further comprises a base portion comprising a base material layer including a bottom surface for adhesive application to the skin of a patient and a top surface including a second mechanical engagement material for engagement with the first mechanical engagement material of the locking tab; and a flexible closure extending from the base material layer and including a third mechanical engagement material for engagement with the top surface of the base material layer and a through-hole sized to allow passage of a tab protrusion.
