    • A passenger vehicle door latch assembly includes inhibiting means for preventing accidental setting of the latch to locked condition while the door is open. A resiliently loaded plunger is guided in fixed structure between a blocking position at which a head or other stop formation of the plunger prevents shifting of an element of a locking mechanism to its locked position and a free position at which locking can take place. The plunger co-acts with a face of a claw or other latch formation or with a face of a pawl or other retention element whenever the latter formation or element are not in their door securing relationship so preventing movement of the plunger from the blocking position until the door is closed.

    • An electrical circuit arrangement includes an unlatching actuator, a primary power source and a secondary power source. The electrical circuit arrangement further includes an operator actuated switch and an electrically controlled bypass switch having an energized condition at which the bypass switch adopts a first switching configuration and a de-energized condition at which the bypass switch adopts a second switching configuration. The circuit has a first configuration in which the bypass switch is in the first switching configuration so that the primary power source, the operator actuated switch, the bypass switch and the unlatching actuator are configured so that actuation of the operator actuated switch causes the unlatching actuator to be energized by the primary power source. The circuit has a second configuration in which the bypass switch is in the second switching configuration so that the secondary power source, the operator actuated switch, the bypass switch and the unlatching actuator are configured so that actuation of the operator actuated switch causes the unlatching actuator to be energized by the secondary power source.

    • A drive mechanism for a power closure latch includes a latch chassis, a power actuator fixed to the latch chassis, and a resilient member having a base at a first end and a second end that engages a drive member. The base is fixed to the latch chassis, and the drive member is driveable by the power actuator to compress the resilient member. The drive mechanism includes a toggle arm having an input and an output. The input is driveable by the drive member to toggle the output between a first position and a second position. A first end of a second arm has a pivot fixed to the latch chassis and a second end having an input for attachment to the drive member. Driving of the drive member by the power actuator to move the output from the first position to the second position causes compression of the resilient member, and driving of the drive member by the power actuator to move the output from the second position to the first position to deliver an output load for driving an associated power closure latch is assisted by a spring load generated by expansion of the resilient member.

    • A latch assembly includes a latch bolt having a power closure abutment, a first safety abutment and a closed abutment that is moveable between an open position, a first safety position and a closed position. The closure element has a first position at which the closure element is disengaged from the closure abutment, a second position at which the first abutment of the closure element is engaged with the closure abutment and the latch bolt is in the first safety position, and a third position at which the first abutment of the closure element is engaged with the closure abutment and the latch bolt is in the closed position. When the closure element is in the first position and the latch bolt is in the first safety position, actuation of a power actuator causes the closure element to move through the second position to the third position, thereby closing the latch. During movement of the closure elements from the second position into the third position, the closure abutment is positioned generally between the first abutment and the second abutment.
