    • A series of novel heterocyclic-substituted 2-(1H)-quinolone compounds have been prepared, including the 3,4-dihydro derivatives thereof, wherein the heterocyclic ring moiety is a pyrrolyl, imidazolyl, pyrazolyl, triazolyl or tetrazolyl group attached by a nitrogen atom of said group to the 5-, 6-, 7- or 8-positions of the quinolone ring. These particular compounds are useful in therapy as highly potent inotropic agents and therefore, are of value in the treatment of various cardiac conditions. Preferred member compounds include 6-(2,4-dimethylimidazol-1-yl)-8-methyl-2-(1H)-quinolone, 6-(2,4-dimethyl-5-nitroimadazol-1-yl)-8-methyl-2-(1H)-quinolone, 8-methyl-6-(tetrazol-1-yl)-2-(1H)-quinolone, 8-methyl-6-(1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)-2-(1H)-quinolone, and 6-(4-cyano-2-methylimidazol-1-yl)-8-methyl-2-(1H)-quinolone, respectively. Methods for preparing these compounds from known starting materials are provided.

    • Presented are apparatus and methods for utilizing coupons and the like in the context of a contactless payment process. A processor of a payment-enabled mobile device stores a Proximity Coupon System Environment (PCSE). The PCSE includes coupon applications that provide for an alternative form of payment and/or that influence a final transaction amount for a payment transaction. The method includes storing in a File Control Information (FCI) file of the PCSE a list of the coupon applications, and storing in a FCI file of a Proximity Payment System Environment (PPSE) an indication of the existence of the PCSE. When a payment transaction request is received from a proximity reader, the payment-enabled mobile device transmits the indication of the existence of the PCSE and the list of coupon applications that are to be considered before determining the final transaction amount.

    • This disclosure is directed to optical data path systems that enable unidirectional and bidirectional transmission of optical signals between nodes of a multi-node system such as a multiprocessor system. In one aspect, an optical data path system includes an optical device layer connected to nodes of a multi-node system and a controller. The optical device layer includes a waveguide network of waveguide branches optically connecting each node of the multi-node system to every other node of the multi-node system, resonators disposed adjacent to the waveguide branches, and detectors disposed adjacent to waveguide branches of the waveguide network. Each detector is electronically connected to a node of the multi-node system. The resonators are operated by the controller to control the path of optical signals sent between the nodes of the multi-node system.
