摘要： PURPOSE:To efficiently remove nitrogen oxide (NOx; nitrogen monoxide and nitrogen dioxide), especially, nitrogen dioxide contained in exhaust gas in low concn. CONSTITUTION:An adsorbent of nitrogen oxide is characterized by containing zirconia and ruthenium. At least one kind of oxide of a metal selected from a group consisting of manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, lead and cerium can be also added to the adsorbent. The specific surface area of the adsorbent is pref. 10m /g or more and the vol. of the pores with a pore size of 0.2-5mum thereof is 0.02cc/g or more.

SOLUTION: In the case of regenerating the adsorbent for nitrogen oxides, etc., containing an alkali metal element, the adsorbent is heat-treated in the presence of a reducing agent, then is washed and is impregnated with the alkali metal element. In the case that the adsorbent contains copper in addition to the alkali metal element, the adsorbent is heat-treated in the presence of the reducing agent, then is washed and is impregnated with the alkali metal element, and then is heat-treated again in the presence of the reducing agent or is heat- treated in the presence of the reducing agent, is washed, then is impregnated with alkali salt of organic acid and is heat-treated in inert gas.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently adsorb and remove a nitrogen oxide and a sulfur oxide by incorporating at least one kind of an element to be selected from manganese, copper, and lead, at least one kind of alkali metal element, and at least one kind of alkali earth metal element in an absorbent. SOLUTION: At least one kind of an element selected from manganese, copper, nickel, etc., at least one kind of an alkali metal element (lithium, potassium, sodium, etc.), and at least one kind of an alkali earth metal element (helium, magnesium, calcium, etc.), are respectively incorporated in an adsorbent. Then, a gas is brought in contact with the adsorbent, and a nitrogen oxide and a sulfur oxide in the gas are adsorbed to purify the gas. At this time the nitrogen oxide is either nitrogen monoxide or nitrogen dioxide, and the sulfur oxide is either sulfur dioxide or sulfur trioxide. Thereby an oxide of a particularly low concentration can be efficiently absorbed, and durability can be improved.

To remove nitrogen oxide, nitrogen monoxide in the exhaust gas is preliminarily oxidized into nitrogen dioxide and then the exhaust gas is brought into contact with the adsorbent.
