    • A pulse applying method comprising applying a pulse train having a constant period to any one of a selection electrode and a control electrode which are opposed each other through a liquid crystal, while applying to the other a pulse train having a specific phase relationship with the said pulse train, whereby setting the total application time per unit period of the pulse applied between the selection electrode and the control electrode to two states, one being of the case where the liquid crystal operates and the other of the case where the liquid crystal does not operate, thus making the liquid crystal display unit indicative and non-indicative. A clear display with uniform contrast is obtainable. Moreover, a low-voltage drive is possible and the response speed is high.

    • A method of manufacturing a semiconductor device can suppress the generation of burrs when an array of integrated circuits to which a supporting member is bonded for assistance is separated into chips. The supporting member having thinned regions (or void regions which are openings in the supporting member) located correspondingly beneath the scribing lines extending between the integrated circuits is bonded by an adhesive to the back side of a semiconductor substrate on which integrated circuits are arrayed at the primary side. Then, a dicing tape is attached to the support member to secure the entire assembly, and the assembly of the integrated circuits, the semiconductor substrate, the adhesive, and the supporting member are cut along the scribing lines, and then the dicing tape is removed.

    • A camera shutter having a shutter aperture, shutter blades, and a driving device for driving the shutter blades to open and close the shutter aperture. The driving device includes a pair of lever members spaced apart and confronting each other across the shutter aperture, each of the lever members having a first end portion and a second end portion. A piezoelectric element is connected to and between the lever members at the first end portions thereof for undergoing elastic deformation to oscillate the lever members. An elastic member is connected to and between the lever members at the second end portions thereof for undergoing elastic displacement in response to oscillation of the lever members. A transmission member is integrally connected to a central portion of the elastic member for transmitting the displacement of the elastic member to the shutter blades to open and close the shutter aperture.

    • An ink jet head includes a nozzle plate having a nozzle through the nozzle plate in its thickness direction, a base plate laminated with the nozzle plate and having an ink supplying hole through the base plate in its thickness direction, a pressure chamber connected to the nozzle and the ink supplying hole in the substantially perpendicular manner and provided with a pressure means on the bonded surface of the nozzle plate and the base plate. The nozzle and the ink supplying hole are made narrower than the pressure chamber and the connecting channel. The plural nozzles, pressure chambers, connecting channels, and ink supplying holes are provided. A common ink chamber connecting to a plurality of the ink supplying holes are provided on the opposite surface to the nozzle plate laminated with the base plate in the perpendicular manner to the nozzle plate. A projection is formed in the nozzle plate and the nozzle is provided through the projection. The ink head enables to prevent bonding materials from flowing into the thin portions during bonding process, to eliminate variations in efficiency of ink ejection at the respective nozzles, and to improve the printing finish in quality.
