    • PURPOSE:To change the grade of polypropylene efficiently while effectively utilizing the capacity of a polymerization tank by polymerizing propylene with the aid of a specified catalyst by continuously changing the grade by controlling the amount of the catalyst fed and the hydrogen concentration. CONSTITUTION:A magnesium halide (i), a phthalic diester (ii) and a tetravalent titanium compound (iii) having at least one halogen atom are ground together and heated in the presence of a (halo)hydrocarbon (iv) to obtain a transition metal catalyst (a) comprising component (iii) supported by component (i). Component (a) is mixed with an organoaluminum compound (b) to obtain a catalyst. Propylene is continuously polymerized in bulk in the presence of this catalyst in liquid propylene as a solvent in a polymerizer consisting of at least two connected polymerization tanks by increasing the hydrogen feed in order of sequence of the tanks in such a way that when the grade is changed to a lower-MW one, the amount of component (a) to be fed is decreased while the hydrogen concentration is increased according to the amount of residual component (a) until it is decreased to the desired value and the hydrogen concentration in each of the second and subsequent polymerization tanks is then changed to the desired value and that when the grade is changed to a higher-MW one, the conditions are changed in reversed directions.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the balance between the rigidity and the impact strength by using a crystalline PP and a specified copolymer as the constituents. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. crystalline PP is mixed with 1-30 pts.wt. copolymer of propylene and an alpha-omega diene having terminal vinyl groups, which has a content of alpha-omega diene units of 0.0001-5mol%, a molar ratio of the vinyl groups to the a-w diene units (M/M0) of at most 0.9:1, and a content of boiling p-xylene insoluble matter of at most 1wt.% and wherein the ratio of the weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to the number-average molecular weight (Mu) is at least 7:1 in the high-molecular weight region and the value obtained by dividing the ratio in the high-molecular weight region by that in the low-molecular weight region is at least 2 when the area below the molecular weight distribution curve, determined by the gel permeation chromatography, with the elution amount as the ordinate and the natural logarithm of molecular weight as the abscissa is divided into high-, low-and medium-molecular weight regions centered at the peak positions of the curve and the distribution in each region is assumed to be a Gaussian distribution.
