SOLUTION: A hydrophobic organic solvent solution of a polymer composed of a polystyrene block polymer (having a volume ratio ≥90vol% in a copolymer) and the other block polymer which are soluble and insoluble in the hydrophobic solvent, respectively, is cast on a substrate and then a functional material solution is cast on the substrate or the substrate is immersed in the functional material solution. Thereby, the functional materials are embedded in the holes in the lattice patterns to form the organic thin film. The optical recording medium wherein the organic thin film is formed on the substrate as a recording layer is formed. Recording and reproduction are performed by changing optical characteristics of the functional materials by irradiation with light using each hole of the lattice shape formed in the organic thin film as a minimum unit.
