    • A cassette loading mechanism for a cassette deck which contributes to the compactness of the deck. The loading mechanism includes a movable member which engages a cassette and which is movably mounted to slide in directions in which the cassette is inserted and ejected. The movable member is biased in the ejecting direction. A cassette holder is movable between a raised position where the inserted cassette is held and a lowered position where the cassette as held is set in a play position, the cassette holder being biased in the direction of the lowered position. A control arm, which is rotatably mounted on a frame, controls the movement of the cassette holder towards the lowered position. A lock arm, rotatably mounted on the control arm, locks the movable member when the movable member is moved a predetermined distance in the insertion direction of the cassette. A single biasing device biases the control arm in a control direction and the lock arm in a locking direction.

    • A gauge for a coordinate measuring machine has a plurality of balls whose centers are located on at least one line inclined with respect to a reference axis in a virtual reference plane. The gauge is set on a measuring table of the coordinate measuring machine. Orthogonal coordinates in which one of the coordinate axes is identical to the reference axis are set in the virtual reference plane. The coordinates of the center of each ball are measured by the coordinate measuring machine. Thereafter, the gauge is turned and inverted by 180 degrees about the reference axis and is set again on the measuring table. Orthogonal coordinates in which one of the coordinate axes is identical to the reference axis are set in the virtual reference plane. The coordinates of the center of each ball are measured in the same way as above. Thus, measurement errors of the straightness of the machine axes of the coordinate measuring machine and the orthogonality between the machine axes can be easily and precisely evaluated.

    • This sewing machine is provided with a stop member for stopping the downward movement of the presser foot holder in the case that the cushion piece on the retainer is left out. As a result, in the normal condition, it is needless to say that the sewing work can be performed without damage of the cloth or without occurrence of big sound, and even in the abnormal condition that the cushion piece employed on the retainer to prevent the occurrence of the noise has been left out, the sewing work can be continuously performed preventing damage of the cloth or occurrence of excessively big sound.
