    • A method and apparatus for routing auxiliary signals, such as telephone land line signals from a telephone jack, to a remotely located electronic device, such as a satellite signal receiver, includes modifying coaxial cables used to connect the remote electronic device to another device such as a satellite antenna or multiple antennas, multi-switch box, by affixing auxiliary signal wires to lengths of coaxial cables. Ends of auxiliary wires at a downstream end of a modified coaxial cable adjacent to a remote electronic device are stripped and connected to a network port of that device, and ends of wires at a downstream end of modified cable closest to a network port such as a telephone jack are stripped and connected to the network port. Upstream ends of auxiliary signal wires at upstream ends of the two cables connected to an intermediate electronic device such as a satellite multi-switch box are stripped and connected together through bridging circuitry consisting of electrical connections to form a phone bridge for telephone network connections, or of electronic interface circuitry for Ethernet or other such networks.

    • A remote control unit for efficiently selecting programming/channels is disclosed. The remote control unit is particularly applicable to receiver stations that receive transmitted signals from more than one source on more than one frequency. Movement back and forth between the different signal sources typically calls for the viewer to perform more than one selection operation. In the disclosed embodiment, a single selection operation (e.g., entry of a desired channel number or operation of one of the arrow keys or the up/down channel keys) initiates the several actions that are needed to move from one source to another and select a channel associated therewith. The different sources may be identified automatically based on channel assignments. In the disclosed embodiments, the channel number assignments for one signal source are in the range from “0” to “99,” and the channel number assignments for another signal source are in the range from “100” to “999.”

    • A broadband, high speed, signal inverting video amplifier comprises a generally conventional, main cascode amplifier and first and second current boosting cascode amplifiers means which are capacitively coupled to the main cascode amplifier. The first current boosting amplifier provides a positive current spike in response to an input video signal abruptly decreasing, the positive current spike provided thereby being fed into the main cascode amplifier in a manner causing the current spike to be added to current through the main amplifier when the amplified video signal goes positive. The second current boosting amplifier provides a negative current spike in response to the input video signal abruptly increasing, the negative current spike provided thereby being fed into the main cascode amplifier in a manner causing the such current spike to be substracted from the current through the main amplifier when the amplified video signal goes negative. The positive and negative spikes cause the amplified output video signal to have rise and fall times to be less than about 3.5 nanoseconds at loads of at least about 25 pf at peak-to-peak output voltages of at least about 40 volts and to be no more than about 1.8 nanoseconds at about 20 volts peak-to-peak for a load of about 14.5 pf.
