    • A focus condition detecting device which eliminates a wasteful operation thereof to obtain optical results of detection in a shortest period of time and wherein it can be discriminated correctly depending upon data read from a lens regarding an exit pupil of the lens whether or not detection of a focus condition is possible. The device comprises an optical means which forms a plurality of pairs of light images from beams of light from pairs of areas of an exit pupil plane of an interchangeable lens. Relative displacements between the light images are detected by a plurality of focus condition detecting means. Data regarding optical characteristics of the lens are read from the lens, and in accordance with the data thus read, those ones of the focus condition detecting means for which detection of a focus condition is possible are selected from an optical relationship between the optical means and the exit pupil of the lens. An in-focus condition is finally determined from focus condition signals produced from the selected focus condition detecting means.

    • In a focus condition detecting device wherein an object image formed by an objective lens of a camera is re-imaged as first and second images on first and second photocell arrays through a pair of re-imaging lenses, a pair of plano-convex lenses are used as the re-imaging lenses to improve the accuracy of focus condition detection. The device is formed into a module and the plano-convex lenses are formed on a transparent plate supported on a main body of the module. An extremely thin masking member for blocking a part of light rays incident on the plano-convex lenses to form the first and second images is sandwiched between the transparent plate and a surface of the module main body. This arrangement prevents the masking member from rising and/or warping which otherwise causes inconsistency in luminous levels between the first and second images on the first and second photocell arrays. Various examples of the arrangement of the masking member to prevent its rising and/or warping are proposed.

    • A camera is capable of switching normal photographing mode and panoramic photographing mode to each other and has a view finder for checking a photographing range. The view finder includes a visual frame display device, a device for varying magnification of the view finder, a control device. The visual frame display device switches a visual frame for displaying the normal photographing mode and a visual frame for displaying the panoramic photographing mode. The control device switches the visual frame display device from the visual frame for displaying the normal photographing mode to the visual frame for displaying the panoramic photographing mode and allows the magnification varying device to increase the magnification of the view finder. Instead of the control device, in switching the normal photographing mode to the panoramic photographing mode, the control device also instructs the magnification varying device to vary the magnification of the view finder so that either an angle of view corresponding to a horizontal direction or in a vertical direction in the panoramic photographing mode is displayed in the visual frame for displaying the normal photographing mode and then, instructs the visual frame display device to switch the visual frame for displaying the normal photographing mode to the visual frame for displaying the panoramic photographing mode, and the view finder magnification varying device to vary the magnification of the view finder.
