    • A data processing apparatus allocates a page number in a record to each of a plurality of records of a variable data print job and performs a preflight check every page number. After that, the data processing apparatus extracts the records in which the same kind of (or same) problem has occurred in a page of the same page number from the records included in the variable data print job. The data processing apparatus calculates a ratio of the extracted records to all records having the page of the page number and presumes whether the problem relates to a master object or relates to a variable object according to the ratio. The data processing apparatus displays whether the problem in the page relates to the master object or relates to the variable object every page having the problem.

    • A CPU of an image forming apparatus, such as a color electrophotographic copying apparatus, reads print step information from a memory, such as a USB memory, that stores print image data and print step information relating to a plurality of print steps for producing a print of the print image data and a progress state of the print steps. The CPU updates the progress state of the print steps stored in the memory subsequent to the print step being performed by a printer in the image forming apparatus, displays a next print step to perform based on the read print step information, and controls the printer. The image forming apparatus thus avoids leaks of the print data, and prevents useless printing and erratic job processing. Thus, even an inexperienced operator can provide sophisticated high quality print service using the image forming apparatus.

    • An inclination, at a pit forming position, of the information recording surface of an optical disc with respect to a plane that is perpendicular to laser light emitted from an optical pickup is detected by a tilt sensor. Pits are formed while the laser light intensity is increased as the detected inclination increases. The illumination light quantity per unit area decreases as the inclination of the information recording surface increases. Setting the laser light intensity at a larger value as the inclination of the information recording surface increases makes it possible to compensate for reduction of the illumination light quantity per unit area that occurs in association with inclination of the information recording surface without the need for correcting the laser light emitting direction. Therefore, even if the information recording surface of an optical information recording medium is inclined, information recording can be performed with a constant laser light emitting direction.

    • A carbon electrode is dipped in a solution containing a reactive substance, and the carbon electrode impregnated with the solution is covered with an insulating tubular member; or a solution containing a reactant is poured into an insulating tube, and a carbon electrode is inserted into the tube; whereby the reactant is made coexistent in the periphery of the carbon electrode. Alternatively, a reactive substance such as an active enzyme and graphite particles or activated carbon particles are mixed with a liquid and dispersed therein to prepare a thoroughly wetted paste. The paste is introduced by means of an extruding mechanism such as a syringe into an insulating tubular member in which a bundle of many thin carbon rods as a lead is inserted. Thus, a carbon sensor electrode is produced. Alternatively, a first carbon electrode that has been dipped in an active enzyme or an enzyme-like reactive substance solution is disposed in a wet condition in a cylindrical ion permeable membrane. To prevent the enzyme or enzyme-like reactive substance in the electrode from becoming deactivated with the passage of time, a preliminary electrode is further inserted into the insulating tubular member, whereby the potential can be kept to be oxidation or reduction potential so as to ensure a constant sensor life. A fresh electrode surface having the active enzyme or enzyme-like reactive substance can be easily obtained by cutting or snapping off a tip portion of the sensor including the insulating tubular member.
