    • PURPOSE:To make inspection of a device without disassembling it by passing a current, at which a neutral position energizing spring is set to the maximum and an elastic body is deformed to the maximum, and judging fatigue condition, etc., based on the rear wheel steer angle, when the steering mode is set to the inspection mode. CONSTITUTION:When a vehicle provided with a rear wheel steering mechanism 14 for steering by an electric motor 20 against an energizing force of a neutral position energizing spring 89 for rear wheels 15 comes in a repair shop, etc., the steering mode is set to the inspection mode if a condition that the vehicle speed is approx. zero and a steering wheel 11 cannot be operated is continued for a specified period. When the mode is set to the inspection mode, an electric current value of the electric motor 20 is set to a current value at which the length of the spring 89 becomes the maximum and the deformation of a sheet member, which is an elastic body provided between the spring 89 and a gear housing, becomes the maximum to steer the rear wheels. Under this condition, rear wheel steer angle is compared with a specified reference value to inspect fatigue and deterioration of the mechanical elements of the rear wheel steering mechanism.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a good steering feeling by controlling a transfer ratio of a steering unit through control of an operation amount of a motor generator based on a steering torque signal sent from a steering torque sensor so as to change a turning amount of a steering system. SOLUTION: The transfer ratio control means 14 is provided with a microprocessor for executing various operating function, processing function, and memory function. A target turning amount signal is generated based on an electric operation amount signal OS corresponding to the operation amount of the steering wheel 2 supplied from the operation amount sensor 17 and an electric steering torque signal TS corresponding to the steering torque supplied from the steering torque sensor 18. Furthermore, a motor generator control signal VO obtained by combining an ON signal corresponding to the target turning amount signal and a pulse width modulation signal is supplied to the motor generator driving means 15. As a result, a good steering feeling for the driver's intention can be obtained, thus reducing the load of the driver who has been driving for a long time. Therefore, excessive steering operation in case of emergency can be prevented.

The stable behavior tendency of a vehicle near the neutral position is suppressed, the turning behavior tendency is increased, and excellent turning property is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain high turn performance without deteriorating stability by determining in accordance with a detected car speed the ratio of a steering angle and its phase corrected in accordance with a detected steering condition and calculating being based on a front wheel steering angle a rear wheel target steering angle steering a rear wheel. CONSTITUTION:A controller 16 inputs signals from a steering angle sensor 14, steering speed sensor 15, steering torque sensor 40, car speed sensor 20 and a rear wheel steering angle sensor 24 and determines ratio of a steering angle and its phase in accordance with a detected car speed, calculating a target steering angle of rear wheels 18RR, 18RL from the steering angle ratio and phase being based on a front wheel steering angle detected in the steering angle sensor 14. Here the car speed is left as determining its correction region, when the car speed is in this region, the steering angle ratio and phase are corrected in accordance with a detected steering condition. For instance in the case of a steering speed in a large value, even at the time of high speed running, the rear wheel is steered in a reverse phase. The rear wheel is steered by an electric motor 21 so as to obtain the rear wheel target steering angle. Thus by obtaining high turn performance without deteriorating stability, driving performance can be improved.
