摘要： High strength industrial water, including reverse osmosis brine, is treated with a nanofiltration (NF) membrane unit. In one system and process, NF retentate is recirculated to the NF unit through a softener. Feedwater may also flow to the NF unit through the softener. Sodium carbonate is added to the softener to form calcium carbonate precipitates which are removed from the softener effluent by a microfiltration membrane. The hardness of water flowing to the NF unit is reduced only as much as required to avoid scaling in the NF unit. In another system and process, an aqueous solution comprising sulfate is added to feedwater flowing to an NF unit. Sulfate may also be added to wastewater fed to the first system and process.

摘要： A desalination system is provided. The desalination system comprises a desalination apparatus. The desalination apparatus comprises first and second electrodes, and a first group of paired ion exchange membranes disposed between the first and second electrodes to form a first group of alternating first and second channels. The first channels are configured to receive a first stream for desalination and the second channels are configured to receive a second stream to carry away ions removed from the first stream, respectively. The desalination apparatus further comprises a plurality of spacers disposed between each pair of the adjacent ion exchange membranes and between the first and second electrodes and the respective ion exchange membranes. Wherein each of the ion exchange membranes in the first group is a cation exchange membrane. A desalination system and a method for removing ions from an aqueous stream area also presented.

The method comprises: treating the aqueous stream with an electrocoagulation (EC) process to obtain a purified stream comprising silica of a second concentration lower than the first concentration. Optionally the aqueous stream may be produced water or have a temperature in a range of from about 60 °C to less than about 100 °C. At the same time, a system for enhanced oil recovery, a process for recycling polymer flood produced water and an oil recovery process are also provided.

摘要： An electrolysis device is disclosed for producing alkaline water from water including an electrolysis vessel, a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a bipolar membrane element, and at least one cation exchangeable membrane within the electrolysis vessel. The bipolar membrane element has a cation exchangeable side and an anion exchangeable side, the cation exchangeable side being closer to the negative electrode than the anion exchangeable side. The at least one cation exchangeable membrane is arranged between the anion exchangeable side of the bipolar membrane element and the positive electrode, so as to define an alkali chamber between the bipolar membrane element and the cation exchangeable membrane. An ionic exchange resin is associated with the vessel, whereby flow of the water though the vessel and the ionic exchange resin produces alkaline water in the alkali chamber. Various options and modifications are possible. A related washing machine such as a dishwasher is also disclosed.
