A scattering screen for LCD applications comprises at least one light scattering polymethylmethacrylate layer comprising a polymethylmethacrylate matrix and 0.5-59.5 wt.% of spherical scattering particles (A) having an average particle size of 0.1-40 mu m and a refractive index that is different to that of polymethylmethacrylate matrix by 0.02-2 and 0.5-59.5 wt.% of spherical scattering particles (B) having an average particle size of 10-150 mu m and a refractive index that is different to that of polymethylmethacrylate matrix by 0-0.2 wherby the total concentration of (A) and (B) is 1-60 wt.% (with respect to the light scattering polymethylmethacrylate layer) and the particles (A) and (B) are of different average particle diameter and the screen (I) has a transmission value of 20-70% and scattering level of greater than 0.3 whereby ratio of the square of the average surface roughness of the polymethylmethacrylate layer R z to the cube of the particle size of (B) R 2> z/DPB3 is 0.0002-0.1300 mu m -> 1>. An independent claim is included for a process for the production of the screen (I) by extrusion of a composition comprising polymethylmethacrylate, particles (A) and particles (B).

    • The disclosure relates to a process for producing a diffuser sheet for LCD applications, comprising at least one light-diffusing polymethyl methacrylate layer, which has a polymethyl methacrylate matrix and 0.5 % by weight to 59.5 % by weight, with regard to the weight of the light-diffusing polymethyl methacrylate layer, of spherical diffusing particles (A), which have an average particle size V50 ranging from 0.1 to 40 micrometer and a refractive index difference from the polymethyl methacrylate matrix ranging from 0.02 to 0.2, and 0.5 % by weight to 59.5 % by weight, with regard to the weight of the light-diffusing polymethyl methacrylate layer, of spherical particles (B), which have an average particle size V50 ranging from 10 to 150 micrometer and a refractive index difference from the polymethyl methacrylate matrix ranging from 0 to 0.2, whereby the total concentration of the spherical diffusing particles (A); and particles (B) ranges from 1 to 60 % by weight with regard to the weight of the light-diffusing polymethyl methacrylate layer, and the spherical diffusion particles (A) and the spherical particles (B) have a different average particle size V50, wherein the transmittance of the diffuser sheet is in the range and its diffusion coefficient factor (scattering power) is greater than 0.3, wherein the ratio of the square of the average surface roughness of the polymethyl methacrylate layer Rz to the third power of the size of the spherical particles (B) RZ2 /DPB3 is in the range of 0.0009 to 0.0900 (micrometer)-1, wherein said process comprises the step of extruding a moulding composition encompassing 20 polymethyl methacrylate, spherical scattering particles (A) and spherical particles (B).

    • Pantalla de retroproyección en forma de una plancha o lámina, que comprende por lo menos una capa dispersante de la luz a base de un material sintético del tipo de poli(metacrilato de metilo) extrudido con una diferencia de paso a causa de la doble refracción óptica de a lo sumo 25 nm, un grosor en el intervalo de 0,05 a 4 mm, que tiene partículas esféricas con un tamaño de partículas comprendido en el intervalo de 5 a 35 mum en una concentración situada en el intervalo de 2 a 60% en peso, referida al peso total de la capa de poli(metacrilato de metilo) dispersante de la luz, teniendo las partículas esféricas de material sintético a 589 nm y 20ºC una diferencia de índices de refracción con respecto a la matriz de poli(metacrilato de metilo) situada en el intervalo de 0,02 a 0,2, escogiéndose la concentración Cp, en % en peso, de las partículas esféricas de material sintético, el grosor dS, en mm, de la capa de poli(metacrilato de metilo) dispersante de la luz, así como el tamaño de partículas DP, en mum, de las partículas esféricas de material sintético, de tal manera que la relación cP * dS/DP 3 esté situada en el intervalo de 0,0015 a 0,015 (% en peso) * mm/mum 3 y la relación entre la aspereza superficial media Ra de acuerdo con la norma DIN 4768 de poli(metacrilato de metilo) y el tamaño de partículas DP de las partículas esféricas de material sintético esté situada en el intervalo de 0,05 a 0,4.
