    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a zirconia sol in a colloid region having a uniform particle size distribution and being excellent in stability.
      SOLUTION: A method to manufacture the sol in which fine zirconia particles whose mean particle diameter is 5-100 nm are dispersed comprises steps (a)-(e); (a) a step to prepare the dispersion liquid of a zirconium hydroxide gel by adding an alkali aqueous solution in a zirconium compound aqueous solution in the presence of a particle growth regulator, (b) a step to wash the zirconium hydroxide gel, (c) a step to age the dispersion liquid of the washed zirconium hydroxide gel, (d) a step to wash the aged zirconium hydroxide gel and (e) a step to treat the washed dispersion liquid of the zirconium hydroxide gel hydrothermally in the presence of the particle growth regulator. The particle growth regulator is a carboxylic acid or a hydroxycarboxylic acid and the hydrothermal treatment is performed in the range of 100-250°C.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion including dispersed chain-like antimony oxide fine particles which can be suitably used for forming a transparent coating which exhibits high electric conductivity, transparency, and therefore excellent antistatic characteristics because the antimony oxide fine particles (colloid) having a very small average particle diameter and a very narrow particle diameter distribution are connected in a chain form, and to provide a method for producing the same.
      SOLUTION: In the chain-like antimony oxide fine particles, the antimony oxide fine particles having an average particle diameter of 5 to 50 nm are connected in a chain form, and the average number of connected particles is within a range of 2 to 30. The method for producing the dispersion including the chain-like antimony oxide fine particles includes the steps of: preparing an antimonic acid (gel) dispersion by treating an aqueous solution of an alkali antimonate with a cation exchange resin; and treating the dispersion with an anion exchange resin and/or adding a base to the dispersion.
