    • A valve unit of an internal combustion engine is accommodated in a space between a cylinder head and a rocker cover. The valve unit comprises a camshaft, a variable valve operating mechanism, a sensor, and a retaining member. The camshaft is provided with a cam for each cylinder. The variable valve operating mechanism receives a displacement of the cam, outputs a valve drive output, and continuously variable-controls the valve drive output in accordance with a rotational displacement of a control shaft provided substantially in parallel with the camshaft. The sensor detects the rotational displacement of the control shaft. The retaining member retains the camshaft, the variable valve operating mechanism, and the sensor. The retaining member expose the sensor to the out side of the rocker cover thereby to fix the camshaft, the variable valve operating mechanism, and the sensor to the cylinder head.

    • A cellular phone has a signal processor, and the signal processor has a data selector. A first switch of the data selector selects either real face image data or three-dimensional character image data, thereby outputting the selected image data. A second switch of the data selector determines whether the real face image data should be introduced to a character visage extractor/synthesizer. The first switch is connected to a first terminal and the second switch is brought into an open (off) condition synchronously in response to a switch command. Alternatively the first switch is connected to a second terminal and the second switch is brought into a closed (on) condition in response to another switch command. The cellular phone can communicate with any types of conventional communication machines since the cellular phone sends either the real face image data or the character image data.

    • A variable valve train apparatus operable in a low-speed mode in which a low-speed rocker arm is rocked by a low-speed cam through a roller or a slipper to thereby open or close an intake valve, and in a high-speed mode in which a high-speed rocker arm is rocked by a high-speed cam through a roller or a slipper and a changeover mechanism part on the side of the low-speed rocker arm is pressed by a changeover mechanism part on the side of the high speed rocker arm together with which the low-speed rocker arm is rocked to open or close the intake valve. The axis of the changeover mechanism part is positioned at the middle of the width of the roller or slipper in the axial direction of the rocker shaft to prevent inclination of the high-speed rocker arm.
