摘要： The footprint of a document scanning unit such as a copier, facsimile machine or document scanner or combinations thereof is reduced by causing overlap of the leading and trailing edges of long document sheets to be scanned in the document delivery roller system downstream of the scanning station. Differential slippage of the overlapping ends between a drive roller and a pinch roller is provided in a first embodiment. A second embodiment uses a moveable pinch roller in the document delivery system to selectively open and close a gap to permit slippage of the leading and trailing edges of the document. A third embodiment uses three document delivery rollers defining two spaced nips in which the leading and trailing edges of a long document are simultaneously present and a crenellated roller surface to guide the leading edge of the document to the desired nip in the delivery system.

摘要： An automatic document feeder transmission includes a single electric motor mounted on a chassis. Motor actuates a power input gear that is rotatably mounted on the chassis and has gear teeth. A swing arm, rotatably mounted to the chassis, pivots about a swing arm pivot axis through an arc of travel. Arm has central and distal ends, the latter having gear teeth formed therein. Driving and driven pinions, each having mutually intermeshing gear teeth, are rotatably mounted to the arm. Driven pinion gear teeth also intermesh with power input gear teeth. A paper stop is rotatably mounted on the chassis. A catch, disposed on the arm, is selectively engageable with a wire spring disposed adjacent portion(s) of the travel arc, wherein arm rotation is selectively stopped in one direction and allowed in an opposite direction. Arm selectively switches between three discreet feeder modes and selectively actuates the paper stop.

The scanning mechanism scans a media sheet having an image thereon at a variable scan rate, to yield raw data. The memory temporarily stores the raw data. The processing mechanism converts the raw data within the memory into processed data. The raw data is removed from the memory as the raw data is converted. The scan rate adjustment mechanism adjusts the variable scan rate, based on one or more of an amount of free space within the memory, a fill rate at which the raw data is filling the memory, and a removal rate at which the raw data is being removed from the memory, so that the memory does not become completely full.

摘要： A method and apparatus of processing sheet media such as document sheets to be duplex scanned or media sheets on which two sided printing is to take place includes automatic positioning of an active sheet guide gate and drag clutch by the rotation of a transport roller with which the active gate and drag clutch is frictionally engaged. The transport roller may comprise one or more coaxial rollers in an assembly positioned in the media path and is rotatable in different directions such that the leading edge of a moving media sheet is moved through one or the other of two nips defined between the transport roller assembly and associated upper and lower pinch rollers. The direction of rotation of the transport roller assembly can be reversed before the sheet leaves the nip to thus re-position the sheet guide gate and re-route the sheet back in a desired path to a scanner or printer for further sheet processing.
