    • PURPOSE: An optical encoder is provided to remove harmonic waves with reliability by arranging each pattern at an interval same with the interval in which the harmonic waves are removed. CONSTITUTION: An optical encoder includes a light receiving unit, a first pattern (141), and a second pattern. The first and second patterns are formed on scales which are relatively moved while facing the light receiving unit. At least one of the first and second patterns is arranged at an interval same with the interval in which harmonic waves are removed. The width of the first pattern is same with that of the second pattern. The first pattern is arranged at a constant interval, and the second pattern is arranged at a constant interval. The arrangement intervals of the first and second patterns are different.

    • PURPOSE: An optical encoder is provided to obtain sine waves with reliability when suing a rotational scale by making the width of the inner periphery direction of a light receiving unit pattern or a scale pattern shorter than the width of the outer periphery thereof. CONSTITUTION: An optical encoder (100) comprises a scale (120) and a light receiving unit (140). A first pattern (130) is formed on the scale. At least one of the first and second patterns is formed into a band shape for obtaining sin wave signals. At least one of a partial outer line of the first and second patterns is formed into a sinusoidal wave form.

    • An optical encoder prepared by the present invention comprises a light receiving unit; and a scale which relatively moves for the light receiving unit and where a first track and a second track with a pattern for projecting light to the light receiving unit are installed. The number of patterns on the first track is Ns*Nd+I (here, Ns and I is an integar bigger than one, Nd is an integar bigger than two) while the number of patterns on the second track is (Ns-1)*Nd+i. Therefore, an absolute angle of the scale can be calculated in real time or at high resolution.
