    • PURPOSE: An equalizer for a single carrier receiving device and an equalizing method thereof are provided to improve the convergence speed of the equalizer by repeatedly comparing the kth field synchronous signal with a reference signal by N times and operating the equalizer in a training mode. CONSTITUTION: A filter unit(410) has filters which filter a multi-path of a receiving signal. A field synchronous extracting unit(420) extracts a field synchronous signal having two signals of inter-different levels from the receiving signal. A field synchronous storing unit(440) stores the kth field synchronous signal in the extracted field synchronous signal. An error calculating unit(450) repeatedly uses the kth field synchronous signal by N times, and calculates an equalization error value. The filter unit(410) updates the coefficients of the filters using the equalization error value.

    • PURPOSE: A single carrier receiver having an equalizer improving equalization speed is provided to input channel estimation values calculated by a channel estimator to filters, and to initialize coefficients of each filter tap, then to update coefficients of the initialized filters, thereby reducing convergence time of the filter coefficients. CONSTITUTION: A channel estimator(410) obtains a channel estimation value by using correlation between a field synchronous signal and a reception signal. A filter unit(420) has an FIR type filter. The FIR type filter gradually reduces size of multi paths for a main signal, and removes the multi paths. A switching unit(450) selectively operates by corresponding to an operational mode, a blind mode, and a training mode of an equalizer. A determiner(460) determines size of a signal outputted from the filter unit(420) in predetermined size if the equalizer is in the blind mode, and outputs the determined signal. A delayer(490) delays the field synchronous signal if the equalizer operates in the training mode, and outputs the delayed signal.
