    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform breaking-in operation of an embossing tool directly in a paper processing machine and at the same time, significantly shorten time for manufacturing the recessed shape of a female mold with the use of a hard embossing die by heating a counter tool and/or the embossing die. SOLUTION: An embossing die 33 with a projecting emboss motive is matched with a support face 32 and both are tightly clamped with a screw. Next, a counter tool 45 is assembled into the interior of a groove 44 in a lower-position embossing roll 6. This counter tool 45 is made of a thermoplastic plastics of viscotenacious elastic material and is of such a structure that an outwardly curved smooth surface 45' corresponds to the outer peripheral face 40' of a roll body. The surface 45' is heated by a hot blast air blower. Further, an upper-position embossing roll 5 is brought into contact with the lower-position embossing roll 6 while heat continues to be supplied, and these rolls 5, 6 are simultaneously rotated to move to stamp the projecting embosses motive on the surface 45'. Thus the recessed shape of a female mold is manufactured. The rotating movement is continued until the surface 45' is cooled ad the recessed shape of the female mold is endurably formed.

    • To detect product defects during the production of mailing products, hygiene products or folded paper products, optical imaging sensors or capacitive sensors monitor at least one characteristic parameter or feature of the products successively moving through the production machine, to detect an actual value of each characteristic parameter or feature of each product. The detected actual value is compared with a stored nominal value for the respective characteristic parameter or feature. The result of the comparison is used to initiate or control a further measure, such as ejecting a defective product from the production line, marking a defective product so that it can be visually recognized and manually removed from the production line, or initiating corrective measures to correct the cause of the defect. The characteristic parameters or features relate to the dimensions, the position, and/or the form of the product or parts of the product.
