    • Milling operations are disclosed which require a reduced number of tool trips into a wellbore to create a cut-out pocket or window in a tubular such as casing in the wellbore. Preferably one or two trips are required. A milling system is disclosed which is useful in such operations which includes a whipstock with an orientation member secured thereto and a milling apparatus with one or more mills and an extending joint, if needed, with a central channel therethrough for receiving the orientation member as the milling apparatus moves down in the wellbore. Such a system may be used in a single-trip milling operation. The milling apparatus is useful in a two-trip operation in which no orientation member is attached to the whipstock and in which a starting mill is initially run in on a first trip to create an initial pocket in the casing. In one aspect the mill(s) mill off high center producing a piece of casing which enters into the hollow portion of the mill(s) and, as needed, into a hollow portion of an interconnected extension member such as a pup joint.

    • Embodiments of the invention relate to an assembly for forming a cased well. The assembly may include an undercut drillable cementing shoe with a casing string connection at a first end. The shoe includes external tubing that forms a second end of the shoe and has a first section defining an enlarged inner diameter relative to a second section of the external tubing. The assembly may also include an earth removal member coupled to the second end of the shoe. The first section of the shoe is disposed between the earth removal member and the second section of the shoe. In another embodiment, the assembly may include a casing string having a first portion with a larger inner diameter than a second portion. The assembly may also include an earth removal member coupled to an end of the casing string. The first portion of the casing string is disposed between the earth removal member and the second portion of the casing string.

    • A wellbore motion control apparatus for controlling the motion of a tubular wellbore string (in one aspect with an additional item and/or apparatus connected thereto) in a wellbore extending from a surface down into the earth has been invented which has, in one aspect, a central mandrel connected to the tubular wellbore string, a housing with a hollow interior and fluid therein, at least one fluid passage apparatus disposable in the hollow interior and having a fluid flow channel extending therethrough, and the at least one fluid passage apparatus secured to the central mandrel, the housing surrounding the central mandrel, the at least one fluid passage apparatus disposed for movement in a chamber defined by an inner surface of the housing and an outer surface of the central mandrel, the at least one fluid passage apparatus positioned within the chamber so that fluid therein is flowable therethrough permitting movement of the fluid passage apparatus within the chamber and thereby controlling movement of the mandrel and therefore of the tubular wellbore string in the wellbore. In one aspect, the apparatus has a first upper piston and a second lower piston, each movably disposed in the chamber, the first upper piston secured to the central mandrel so the central mandrel moves with the first upper piston, each piston having a fluid passage apparatus, the first upper piston movable about at least one rod connected to the second lower piston so that the first upper piston is movable downwardly on the at least one rod as fluid passes therethrough to move to abut the second lower piston. In one aspect the pistons move at different rates.

    • Wellbore operations (e.g. for milling and/or drilling) are disclosed which require a reduced number of tool trips into a wellbore to create a cut-out pocket or window in a tubular such as casing in the wellbore and, in some aspects, to continue into a formation adjacent a main wellbore forming a lateral wellbore in communication with the main wellbore. Preferably one trip is required. A milling apparatus has been invented with milling apparatus for milling a tubular member and a nose cone releasably connected to the milling apparatus and releasably connectible to a diverter that directs the milling apparatus toward the tubular member. A nose cone for a milling apparatus has been invented with a body member, the body member having a mid portion, a top portion and a lower nose portion, and the top portion releasably securable to the milling apparatus and the lower nose portion releasably securable to a concave of a whipstock. A whipstock has been invented with a body member having an upwardly extending concave portion with a concave surface, and at least a portion of the concave surface contactable by a milling apparatus during a milling procedure covered with armor material.

    • The present invention discloses, in certain preferred aspects, a whipstock with a body with a top, a bottom, and a cavity in the body, a sacrificial element secured to the top of the body, the sacrificial element having at least one surface for abutment by a first mill moving down adjacent the whipstock to guide the first mill while the first mill mills a tubular in which the whipstock is positioned and the sacrificial element for inhibiting the mill from contacting the body, the first mill having a curved outer shape and a nose projecting downwardly therefrom, the nose having a nose shape, the cavity defined by sides of the body and having filler material therein, the sides of the body presenting a face for abutment by a second mill while the second mill moves down adjacent the whipstock to mill a window in the tubular, the face for guiding the second mill and inhibiting the second mill from contacting the body other than the sides thereof defining the cavity, the sacrificial element having a groove therein with a groove shape corresponding to the nose shape of the nose of the first mill, the sacrificial element made of readily millable material, the at least one surface of the sacrificial element for abutment by the first mill, the at least one surface including a curved surface having a curved shape corresponding to a curved outer shape of the first mill to enhance guiding contact between the first mill and the curved surface.
