    • Coil winding and placer equipment arranged on an indexing table and rotatable between coil winding and coil insertion stations. Coils are wound on a coil winding form by means of a flyer and are stripped from the coil form onto an array of pivotable coil retainers. The coil retainer array is arranged outside of and concentrically with the coil insertion blades whereby the coil retainer array retains a complete set of stator coils. A stator core is positioned above the placer equipment and the retainers are pivoted inwardly thereby releasing the complete set of coils which are now held only by the insertion blades. The blades are moved upwardly into the bore of the stator core and a coil stripper is actuated to insert the coils into the axial slots of the stator core.

    • A coil inserting blade array has a first position in which the distal ends of a group of adjacent blades extend into the coil form recess with the two gaps at the sides of the group exposed to the angled section-shaping portions so that a coil wound on coil form may be transferred to the array with angled sections extending through the two gaps and one end section disposed within the array. The array has a second position with the distal ends of the blades extending into the bore of the core and engaging teeth thereof, and with the two gaps communicating with two winding slots, the two gaps defining a first angle therebetween. The angled section-shaping portions of coil form define a second angle therebetween slightly smaller than the first angle and having a center spaced outwardly from the centerline of the array on the side thereof remote from the one end section in the first position of the array. The facing sides of each pair of adjacent blades which define the gaps diverge toward the center of the array so that the coil on the blades may be pivoted to an insertion position defining an acute angle with the blades with the two angled sections of the coil defining a third angle therebetween slightly larger than the first angle and the projected centerlines of the angled sections meeting at a point spaced inwardly from the centerline of the array.

    • Apparatus for forming a stator for a dynamoelectric machine by inserting prewound coils into a slotted stator core includes enlarging the slot openings or gap between certain adjacent pairs of stator teeth, placing the prewound stator windings in selected stator core slots and thereafter reducing the slot opening or gap between those certain adjacent pairs of teeth. The disclosed apparatus includes a stator bore support and a series of punches to be placed in stator slots and collapsed radially inwardly to bend the stator teeth tips to conform to the bore support. An otherwise conventional coil inserting or injecting machine has unique blades, each of which has a pair of elongated depressions for accepting the respective formed stator teeth tips, and a pair of ribs outside the depression for spanning the corresponding tooth. Reforming of the stator teeth so as to provide a cylindrical bore stator may be accomplished by a plurality of cylindrical rollers which simultaneously engage the stator bore and traverse that bore interior surface to displace the stator teeth tips radially outwardly, thereby providing a wound stator for further processing having a substantially reduced iron gap or, for a given iron gap, containing windings of a larger wire size than normally insertable in a stator having that iron gap. The slot openings may be enlarged either by mechanical forming of the stator tooth tips or the stator laminations may be initially stamped with this deformation so that the stator core or stack of such laminations need not be mechanically formed to increase the iron gap available for the wire insertion process.

    • The specification discloses an attachment for a food cutting machine which facilitates perpendicular cutting and chopping of food. The attachment is designed for ready attachment to a conventional food cutter of the type having a rotatable cutting cone with cutting edges defined on the surface thereof and of the type also having a hopper disposed adjacent the cone for retaining and feeding food to the cutting edges thereof. The attachment, designed to position food approximately normally the cutting edges of the cone, includes a supporting surface adapted to be supported by the walls of the hopper and a bearing surface extending into the hopper short of the cone at an angle to the supporting surface. The attachment may also have structure for removably locking the attachment to the hopper including a ridge extending from the lower face of the supporting surface adapted to abut with the inside back wall of the hopper and a downwardly turned cylindrical lip extending from the edge of the supporting surface for engaging a flange extending from the back wall of the hopper. The abutting ridge and lip cooperate to prevent movement of the attachment relative to the hopper when food is pushed against the bearing surface of the attachment.
