    • 11,498. Rusett, E. W. de, and Davis, W. E. June 25. Cattle ships.-Relates to means for facilitating the shipping and unshipping of the stanchions and boards, and is shown as applied to wooden boards. It is, however, equally applicable to round or other shaped parts of wood or metal. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the stanchions are hollow and fit into swivelling head sockets 2, attached to an overhead beam 4 secured to the deck. The sockets for the side or breast boards 6 are formed of side plates 7 bolted to the stanchion. These plates are slotted to receive the ends of the open rings 10, which rest on the boards under the horns 11 and prevent the boards from rising out of their sockets. By sliding the ends of the rings up the slots, the rings can be swung up clear of the horns, to allow the boards to be unshipped. In a modification of this arrangement, shown in Fig. 4 , one of the side plates is bent at 21 to form box-like sockets. As shown in Fig. 1, the footboards 12 are secured in the same way as the breastboards. The foot of the stanchion fits in a socket 14 made so that dirt can easily be removed. An open ring with its ends in the side plates prevents the stanchions from rising. Fig. 5 shows a plan of corner sockets for holding foot or middle boards. The outside plate is bent round the stanchion, and there are two inside plates, all three being secured by one bolt. The stanchion may be prevented from.rising by a ring engaging the head socket in one of the ways shown in Figs. 7, 7 , or 8. Figs. 10 and 11 show two methods of arranging rings for preventing the vertical division boards from rising.
