    • A pneumatic tire comprises: a tread rubber having a Shore A hardness of not more than 65 degrees at 20 degrees C.; a tread portion provided with at least one circumferential row of blocks having circumferential edges adjacent to lateral grooves; each of the circumferential edges having a mean inclination angle of 0 to 60 degrees with respect to the tire axial direction; sidewalls of the lateral grooves on one side in the tire circumferential direction each comprising a first upper slope extending from the top of the adjacent block to a first point at a depth h1, while inclining at an angle .alpha.1, and a first lower slope extending from said first point towards the groove bottom, while inclining at an angle .alpha.2 smaller than the angle .alpha.1,; the remaining sidewalls of the lateral grooves on the other side each comprising a second upper slope extending from the top of the adjacent block to a second point at a different depth h2 than said depth h1, while inclining at an angle .beta.1, and a second lower slope extending straight from the second point towards the groove bottom, while inclining at an angle .beta.2 smaller than the angle .beta.1; and the lateral grooves comprising a portion (A) in which the depth h1 is more than the depth h2 but not more than 0.8 times the lateral groove depth, and a portion (B) in which the depth h2 is more than the depth h1 but not more than 0.8 times the lateral groove depth.

    • The present invention relates to a tire designed to be fitted on the driving axles of a motor vehicle for medium or heavy load. This tire is provided with a tread comprising a plurality of full-depth transverse grooves and four circumferential series of inclined grooves and four circumferential series of inclined incisions which delimit five circumferential rows of blocks, namely two axially outer rows, two intermediate rows, and one central row lying essentially across the equatorial plane.Each transverse groove extends across the whole width of the tread, and consists of a central portion, located between a pair of consecutive blocks of the central row, and a pair of lateral portions, located between pairs of consecutive blocks of the intermediate and shoulder rows.The two lateral portions of each transverse groove are staggered circumferentially with respect to each other and penetrate into the body of the central row of blocks. The central portion of the transverse groove has a depth of 3 mm, while the depth of the incisions located between the shoulder blocks and the intermediate blocks is less than the depth of the inclined incisions located between the intermediate blocks and the central blocks.

    • A tire capable of reducing a resistance to a fluid in a groove to improve the wet performances. By forming smaller grooves (or riblets 20) having a depth set within a range of 0.01 to 0.5 mm at a pitch within a range of 0.01 to 0.5 mm in the walls of a circumferential groove and a transverse groove, more specifically, the resistance to the water flowing in the groove is reduced to improve the drainage efficiency of the groove. By arranging a turbulence generating zone having a number of pointed projections at the groove side faces at the confluence between the circumferential groove and the transverse groove, on the other hand, there is suppressed the separation of the water flow in the vicinity of the confluence. With these constructions, it is possible to improve the wet performances of the tire better than the prior art.
