    • The machine consists of a blast housing, a reclaim duct, a reclaim hopper and a support framework. In use, the machine is supported on a horizontal surface over which it is driven and carries out a shot blasting or other operation on an adjacent vertical surface. The blast housing contains a centrifugal throwing wheel which is driven by an electric motor, whereby particulate material introduced into the cage is projected at high speed onto the surface. The reclaim duct receives particulate material, together with debris produced by the action of the material on the surface which rebounds from the surface, and feeds the debris and particulate material to the reclaim hopper. The central axis of the reclaim duct follows a three-dimensionally curved path which describes an upward turn through approximately 90.degree. and also an arc of about 145.degree. in an imaginary horizontal plane perpendicular to the vertical surface. The upper end of the reclaim duct is connected to the reclaim hopper. The particulate material which is returned to the hopper is separated from the debris from the surface by air wash, and returned to the throwing wheel.

    • The cleaning apparatus of the invention consists of a surface cleaning or treating unit such as a blast machine mounted on a support structure for oscillating motion relative thereto. In the preferred embodiment, the blast machine consists of a blast wheel for projecting abrasive onto the surface, a hopper for collecting the spent abrasive and debris, a screw conveyor for returning the spent abrasive and debris to a separator where the debris is separated from the abrasive and the abrasive is returned to the blast wheel. The support structure is supported against the surface being cleaned on sleds and is raised and lowered over the surface by a winch. The blast machine is simultaneously oscillated relative to the support structure in a direction perpendicular to the path of travel of the support structure by a fluid cylinder and cable arrangement. As a result, the blast machine is able to clean or otherwise treat a path from the bottom to top of the structure as wide as the range of oscillation. Finally, the components of the apparatus are designed to be removable such that the apparatus can be quickly and easily broken down to a size small enough to fit through small passages such as those found on storage tanks and the like.

    • A frame member is capable of connection to a lifting cable moving the frame relative to a surface to be cleaned. The carriage is supported on the frame member and is adjustable on tracks between sides of the frame members. A hose support is pivotally mounted on the frame member on a lateral axis and has an operator's handle for moving the carriage and pivoting the hose support. The hose support includes a clamp for multiple hoses for large area treatment. One or more of the hoses may be individually removed for operation independent of the multiple hose support. An auxiliary clamp for the hoses is provided to free up movement of the carriage. The operator's handle for the carriage has switches thereon for operation of the multiple hoses, at least one of the switches being removable for controlling operation of a single hose that has been removed from the carriage.

    • A device capable of suction-adhering to a wall surface by the pressure of an ambient fluid, and of moving along the wall surface. The device includes a pressure receiver housing made of a rigid or semi-rigid material; a plurality of wheels or endless tracks secured to the housing so as to make contact with the wall surface; a partition connected to the housing and having a free end adapted to make contact with the wall surface, at least the free end being made of a relatively flexible material, the partition being adapted to define a substantially fluid-tight low pressure area together with the wall surface and the housing or together with the wall surface alone; and means for discharging a fluid from the low pressure area. The partition has a portion extending outwardly from the position at which it is connected to the housing, and by a relatively small force, at least its free end can be displaced toward and away from the wall surface with respect to the housing. The free end is brought into contact substantially fluid-tight with the wall surface by the fluid pressure which acts on the partition owing to the difference in fluid pressure between the inside and outside of the low pressure area. The fluid pressure acting on the housing is transmitted to the wall surface through the wheels or endless tracks, thereby to cause the device to adhere to the wall surface.
