    • An image forming apparatus and a belt unit are provided. The image forming apparatus or the belt unit includes: an endless belt; a driving roller; a driven roller; a tension generating member which generates a tension at the belt; a displacement member which is provided to be displaced in a displacement direction parallel to the axial direction of the driven roller together with the belt when the belt is moved in a moving direction along the displacement direction; and an axial force converting unit which converts a force of displacing the displacement member into a force which is directed in a direction intersecting the displacement direction and causes the tension generated at the belt to change such that a ratio of a tension generated on a trailing side in the moving direction of the belt to a tension generated on a leading side in the moving direction is decreased.

    • A reflection characteristic of a sample is measured using an integrating sphere by: measuring an apparent reflectance of a reference sample by using integrating sphere, the reference sample having a known true reflectance under a given illumination condition; calculating coefficients for rendering a linear combination of a measured apparent reflectance of the reference sample and N-th power (N is 2 or more integer) of the measured apparent reflectance closer to the known true reflectance of the reference sample; storing calculated coefficients in a storage medium as coefficients for the given illumination condition; measuring an apparent reflectance of a desired sample by using the integrating sphere; calculating a true reflectance of the desired sample under the given illumination condition by multiplying the terms of the linear combination of an measured apparent reflectance of the desired sample and N-th power of the measured apparent reflectance of the desired sample by the coefficients stored in the storage medium, respectively.

    • An apparatus for measuring a characteristic of an object, the apparatus includes: a light projector which projects light to an object; a photosensor which senses light which has been projected by the light projector and reflected from the object; a calculator which calculates a characteristic of the object based on an output of the photosensor; an angle detector which detects respective angles of the light projector and the photosensor with respect to the object; an adjustment mechanism which adjusts the respective angles of the light projector and the photosensor; and a controller which controls the adjustment mechanism based on a detection result of the angle detector so that the light projector and the photosensor come into their respective desired angles.
