    • An air-fuel ratio control system maintaining constant an oxygen storage amount or oxygen release amount per unit time with respect to an exhaust purification catalyst having an oxygen storage capacity even if the intake air amount changes is provided.An air-fuel ratio control system of an internal combustion engine having an intake air amount detecting means, a linear air-fuel ratio sensor arranged at an upstream side of an exhaust purification catalyst, an O2 sensor arranged at a downstream side of said exhaust purification catalyst, a target air-fuel ratio controlling means for performing feedback control of a target air-fuel ratio of exhaust flowing into the exhaust purification catalyst based on output information from the intake air amount detecting means and the O2 sensor, and a fuel injection amount controlling means for performing feedback control of the fuel injection amount based on output information of the linear air-fuel ratio sensor so as to achieve the target air-fuel ratio, characterized in that the target air-fuel ratio controlling means performs feedback control of the target air-fuel ratio so that even when the intake air amount changes, a correction amount per unit time of an oxygen storage amount of the exhaust purification catalyst is made constant.

    • An air-fuel ratio control apparatus of an internal combustion engine according to the present invention is provided with an oxygen storage amount estimator for estimating an oxygen storage amount of an exhaust purifying catalyst and air-fuel ratio control means for controlling an air-fuel ratio, based on the oxygen storage amount. An upper threshold and a lower threshold are set for the oxygen storage amount, and the air-fuel ratio controller performs such control that, when the oxygen storage amount is larger than the upper threshold, the controller controls the air-fuel ratio to a rich region and that, when the oxygen storage amount is smaller than the lower threshold, the controller controls the air-fuel ratio to a lean region. Since this control makes the oxygen storage amount vary between the upper threshold and the lower threshold (within a predetermined range), it is feasible to promote activation of the exhaust purifying catalyst, so as to keep purification performance of the exhaust purifying catalyst high, and to implement stable control of air-fuel ratio.

    • A control device for an internal combustion engine which can highly precisely realize required torque including a high-frequency component with high responsiveness. The control device sets torque with a low frequency included in the required torque as an air quantity controlling torque, and calculates a target air quantity for realizing the air quantity controlling torque based on data in which a relationship of the air quantity and torque is set. The control device controls the air quantity in accordance with the target air quantity. Further, the control device sets torque including both a low frequency and a high frequency as air-fuel ratio controlling torque, and calculates an air-fuel ratio corresponding to the air-fuel ratio controlling torque and a present air quantity as a target air-fuel ratio. The control device controls a fuel injection amount in accordance with the target air-fuel ratio.
