摘要： PURPOSE: To use a sunken caisson itself as an earth retaining wall so as to reduce construction period at reduced cost by constructing at least a part of a side wall as the caisson, and sinking the same into the ground for construction of an underground tank. CONSTITUTION: A part of a new side wall is constructed as a caisson 8 and sunken into frozen soil 5 so that in addition to the remaining existing side wall 3 of an existing underground tank, the sunken caisson 8 itself serves as an earth retaining wall. Therefore, the need for providing an earth retaining wall separately is eliminated, and construction work is made possible while construction cost and period are reduced by the amounts needed for the part of the earth retaining wall to be constructed. Also, even if the heat of the existing underground tank produces frozen soil 5 around it, construction work is made possible irrespective of the frozen soil 5 since the new caisson 8 is constructed inside the existing side wall 3.
